Scrapping Vehicle Bit By Bit.

Apologies if this has been covered before, I've searched on here and googled elsewhere but can't find any up to date information on this.

I'm in the early stages of stripping down a rotten vehicle with a view to keeping the running gear to use as spares for another. The end of this process will see me left with a bare shell that I'm looking to scrap. Not rolling, and not even a whole shell once I've cut out a few good bits of sills and arches that might come in handy later.

Am I obliged to scrap the remaining shell via an ATF as suggested on the gov.uk websites, or can I just cut it up and get rid via the scrap metal skip at the local tip?

If the latter can I get a certificate of destruction via other means?

Are there any pitfalls in just keeping it SORN indefinitely past the point it effectively ceases to exist?

scrap is reasonably valuable these days so I wouldn't be giving it away to the councils subcontractors, i'd be down to the local metal merchants!

I was recently in a similiar situation and I couldn't get anyone to lift it as it wasn't rolling.
So, I cut it up, loaded it into the back of my truck and took it through to my local scrappys.
I explained the situation to him and he was happy enough to sort out the destruction certificate.
I wasn't willing to remain on the document for ever as you never know what the future holds and what crazy laws might come in about vehicles off the road.

I just write 'SCRAPPED' in sharpie all over the V5 and post it to DVLA

Ritchie I think that might work for me. Looking at the list on the DVLA site there's plenty of names I recognise as old fashioned scrap yards round here.

Stealthstylz does that work in your experience then? I mean, do you get a response from the DVLA?
