I've been a bit of an idiot...
Tax ran out on my MX5 in March, as it's off the road I didn't really think about it and forgot about SORN. So it's been untaxed and not on SORN since then (bad). I've insured it and it will be MOT'ed soon (hopefully).
Is it worth phoning DVLA and pleading ignorance or just re Tax it when it's MOT'ed?
I was paying the Tax monthly and it was cancelled as the MOT had run out.

My daughter forgot to notify the DVLA of change of address and when I noticed, the tax was then six months out of date. We retaxed the car but she panicked about the DVLA sending the boys after her, despite the fact she was emigrating the following week and we'd transferred the car into my name, she rang them and they fined her £40 and made her pay one month's back tax so it was cheaper than if she'd retaxed it in the first place. They wont take pleas of ignorance and you'll probably get the £40 fine.

Thought they'd gone back to automatic SORN if untaxed again? (Could be wrong) Tax it and ignore the missing bit, if they catch you, fair do's but enforcement seems to be hit and miss these days.

AFAIK you get automatic SORN every year once you've put you car on SORN. You have to declare SORN initially, and then every year it will be auto renewed without you having to re-apply. Its good for those who have their car off-road for multiple years at a time. I used to have to declare SORN every year on my Escort, but now I can just forget about it.
