hi guys, may need to change a cambelt etc on a r8 (p reg ) rover with a honda single cam engine (sorry don't know the code exactly), just wanted to ask is it a relatively straight forward job ? any tips ? any special tools needed other than just general TDC and usual markings on cam etc etc?
thanks in advance

To be fair there are hundreds of articles and posts and videos relating to changing the belt on this popular Honda engine, a quick google of d16 timing belt change flung forth a world of results. Sadly no real-world info I can give you on this one, never had to do one personally.

If I remember correctly the crankshaft bolt is a left hand thread, one to look out for.

If it's a Honda engine it will turn anti clockwise too

Looks like the procedure for the D16z2 engine is missing from my autodata equivalent. I can manually find procedures for a d16z6 if I search for Hondas. Have you got WhatsApp? Pm me number and I can send screenshots over. The engine turns anticlockwise but it is a standard right hand thread Tom

autodata doesn't mention a reverse thread, only a reverse to "standard" rotation

Can't remember if it was my D16 or B18. But I made up a tool to hold the crank pulley from a huge nut 50mm? (to fit the hex shape in the pulley) by welding a handle to its edge. Socket to undo the crank pulley bolt fitting through the nut centre. Naturally that is done up very tight. Jack to support engine while engine 'frt' left mount is removed.. Not too bad to do though. Obviously it's new enough that cambelt drives waterpump to make that worth replacing at the same time if it's done enough miles lest you have to pull it apart to do it later (or it seizes & takes out cambelt & valves like a friends Vectra).
