Decided to shelve the next Ford project and play with the Mazda truck, going to go down the safer route engine wise, there is nothing wrong with the Present set up but i need to play! so! i would like to know your views on whether to go for the Zetec or the Duratec? regarding the Duratec, it would probably be the 2.3 Galaxy engine, and obviously the simplest route would be carb rather than injection just for ease and simplicity. The truck itself is not a huge heavy thing such as the latest rangers etc.... but what are your views folks, just the basics will do, i am not after a huge debate, just one way or the other, either way it will be done. I have a mazda box, and enough metal and welding wire to adjust & adapt things for the time being, and apart from totally free, what is a good price for either engine? Your thoughts please?

The duratec is actually a Mazda engine (or at least a Ford/Mazda development) from that respect it keeps things more 'one brand' than the zetec.
The duratec is all aluminium so lighter and available in bigger sizes: eg 2.3 and 2.5.
If you're looking for loads of torque then the duratec in VVTi form is good.

Once a Duratec has been rebuilt they're a cracking engine.

What age Galaxy are we referring to in the OP? As the early Galaxy 2.3 is an I4 engine, not actually a duratec Otherwise, duratec over Zetec would be my choice, not such an outdated engine being the main factor

But, thinking about it now, the earlier Galaxy used the I4 DOHC (same as Mk5 RS2000 - but in 2.3 capacity). I'd forgotten about the older engine.
