Another MOT Exempt question

Morning all

Just a quick query, vehicle is a 1965 mini, already registered as historic on logbook.
It's being motd anyway, but I thought it'd be a good idea to register it as exempt anyway, it's obviously been tax exempt for some time.
My understanding is that you have to declare MOT exemption using form V112, you can't just stop mot-ing.
On production of the logbook/V5 at the post office (central city one, not a branch), the response was' it's already historic, you don't have to bother',
Right, confused now. Anyone got an opinion?

I turned up at the post office with the V5C for my GS850, I just explained and was able to tax it with no form filled in.

You don't declare anything until you re-tax it and it has no MOT

Yes I know, but my question is about not declaring it MOT exempt, I know you have to declare it, but we never have, and according to the post office we don't have to?

This is the first paragraph of the V112 form, I've highlighted the relevant word

Evidence of an MoT test is normally required for taxing purposes. If your vehicle
is exempt from MoT testing you will need to fill in this form and produce it when
you tax your vehicle at a Post Office®

If you tax it on line you don't need the V112, you simply click yes to a question, sometimes it doesn't even ask the question!

So in other words all the bo##ocks about not just stopping MOTing it isn't relevant if it's already historic?

Historic class VED has absolutely nothing to do with MOT exemption. The confusion comes from the fact that there’s a VHI tick box on the online tax page.

That was my conclusion, so the idiot in the PO was wrong then. Thanks for that
