I recently bought a Cortina, which SWMBO positively hates. It’s actually quite cool car – a Mk 5 Cortina Estate with a Focus ST170 engine and all sorts of other mods, but it’s not a keeper and I’d already decided to sell it before the latest session of car browsing on line. I told myself (and the other half) that I wouldn’t buy anything else until I’d sold the Cortina. Obviously that plan failed! I am the first to admit that I get bored with cars quickly and change my car far more frequently than some consider normal. This means I’m often to be found casually browsing eBay and Autotrader etc. Last week as I was casually browsing the net I saw an advert for this: Yep, it’s a Jaag (said in a Terry Thomas / ‘Cad and a Bounder’ accent). 1998 V8 version, Low miles, good MOT history, a lovely smooth V8 and leather interior and all wrapped up in very tidy British Racing Green bodywork. According to Autotrader it was less than one mile away so I thought a quick look can’t hurt. Needless to say an hour later I had agreed to buy it! I picked it up a few days later and am really pleased with it. Even the tool kit has never been opened and is wrapped in the original cellophane. And as a bonus the last owner threw in a set of 18" XJR wheels with new tyres. They went straight on and I think look great.

The previous owner had already swapped the grill from the standard XJ8 chrome slats to the XJR chrome mesh grill, which looked good with the newly fitted XJR alloys, but I'm rapidly falling in love with this car and can't resist tinkering with it. Was going to give it a good clean today but rain stopped that idea so the Jag got a minor nose job - painting the chrome mesh grill black - I think it looks a bit meaner and more purposeful. Anyone agree?

It does look better with the black grill. Maybe some fly film on the lights help it look more sinister?
