Hi Retro riders......It has often been said on this forum how I have a talent for choosing the worst and rustiest vehicles . I like that! It makes me happy But here’s the thing.....I simply can not afford to restore all the vehicles I buy to “showroom condition” and to be honest I’ve realised that I’m not really that interested in doing so Allow me to explain........You see when I find an interesting vehicle that is bound for the crusher..I just cant help myself I have to save it Of course I started out with all the best intentions ie to “fully restore” every vehicle I bought.......but actually I just cant afford to do that! My fleet of rusty wrecks was recently featured in a “hubnut” video on Youtube and received some negative comments there along the lines of “such a shame to see all those lovely cars rotting away...if they were mine they’d all be restored etc etc etc” These armchair internet warriors with their ignorant comments penned from their elderly mothers darkened basements have done me a favour really....caused me to re-evaluate my fleet and my hopes for all the previously unloved heaps in my garden! All my cars have literally been saved from the crusher. Basically I have decided that From now on I am going to focus on saving...stabilising...and preserving as many vehicles as I can..instead of stressing about what strangers on youtube would do Sorry for starting a thread with an an “Ants rant” and be assured its not directed at anyone on Retrorides....I have received nothing but positivity encouragement and support from everyone on this forum...which is why I wanted to start this latest rescue mission here and not on Youtube. Enough said....So today I bought this..... Thats all I can tell You for now...not because I'm trying to tantalise You..more like..I spent three minutes in 40 degree heat being bitten by mosquitos stung by nettles “looking it over” safe in the knowledge that if I didn’t buy it then it was literally going to the crusher in the morning! I think You will all agree that I did the right thing and bought it on the spot. That three minutes was just enough for me to establish that this is without doubt the worst vehicle I have ever purchased in my entire life.....and believe me that is saying something! But wait...I'm not a complete idiot....this time there is a very sensible “master plan” best described as “unconventional” for this wreck.....something I hope will finally earn me some money....and bring pleasure to many Intrigued?......then click the bookmark button....with all my other cars having been stabilised..this one now has priority and will be receiving a lot of attention over the coming months Much love....Ant.

I know what the plans are for this, but I won’t spoil the surprise. That was quick work did you go and do the deal as soon as I left? Now I have a another good excuse for a visit ( not that I need an excuse really).

Interesting vehicle. Are you keeping the 2 stroke? Errrrm....it would appear the two stroke is missing along with the gearbox....but fear not.....the plans I have for this particular heap are far more interesting than driving it!

Its getting delivered early next week but we are at liberty to peruse it “and other treasures” anytime so I suggest You and Judit get yourselves over here asap And besides all that I need someone to sing Karaoke with Much love....Ant.

it has a top light , so it's going to be an Air B&B parked under a walnut tree?? Hmm are You psychic? Is it that obvious? Wait and see....it will be delivered in a few days time.....its a chicken shed at the moment.......i have two good ideas for its future...which one I choose is very dependant on its condition... Ive already paid for it and I'm already regretting my impetuously....I think Ive taken a step too far with this particular vehicle Hey ho....you lot know about as much as I do.....serious case of buyers remorse at this end....I mean...honestly do i really need another unrestorable heap in my garden? Its located about eight doors down from my house and I have an open invitation to further inspect it at any time....truth is I don't want to....based on my very brief viewing Its so bad that I honestly don't know what I was thinking of! I just got carried away....thought it would make an excellent thread on retro rides

Buy a vw lt van, strip it down to a rolling chassis, bolt this on top, keep the grime. Be the king at the vw shows.

Remove the entire floor and make a new flat wooden floor inside the shell. Means you have a properly flat floor to work from. Can also make full use of any available height.

That´s only a barkas bus. Too small for either a LT chassis or adult night guests. Quite comfy for chicken so far I guess.

is it fair to assume you only have scrap money invested in it? assuming so at the absolute death just weigh it in yourself and peg it down to over-exuberance. be good to see it roll again though.

Remove the entire floor and make a new flat wooden floor inside the shell. Means you have a properly flat floor to work from. Can also make full use of any available height. Hi mate..I am with You....the floor is already very flat...loads of space inside....chassis (and indeed the rest of the van is not half as bad as it looks) but Your idea is very very good Its got me thinking! Basically my idea has always been to use my land for camping.....I'm thinking glamping in classic car “camping pods” Allow me to explain....I live in badacsonytordemic in Hungary 5 minutes from beutifull beaches at lake Balaton within a national park situated on a national cycle route....lovely quiet spot but we have hundreds of cyclists passing by our front door every day from may to September .....I have good street frontage and loads and loads of land at the back plus stunning views. It has always struck me that if I was one of the 1.5 million tourists coming to lake Balaton every year ...Id be happy to stay at Ants house......But I have a family ie wife and two kids plus I have very little money .....and my house despite being comfortable for me and my family has swallowed all my lifes savings and still needs lots and lots and lots of work Essentially I'm living in a big house that needs doing up...I have no money to do it up...no job...other than being a great father and househusband but I have classic cars...land ....views...location....and imagination.... Your idea about the chassis is excellent as it expands on my camping pod idea...I am very keen to know if anyone else thinks I could make this work... Let me know please

Ps...the Barkas is now in my possession and while it looks like a train wreck Its actually remarkably solid......photos of major “patination” to follow for all You patina fetishists before I jetwash it all off and start stabilising it Also I was towed down the road with 3 flat tyres behind a 1950s steyr tractor on the end of a very very short telephone cable The occupants of the passing police car were most amused and even paused their patrol briefly to laugh and take pics on their cell phones before giving us the thumbs up and moving on....I as you can imagine was sh#####g myself but its all good.......welcome to village life in Hungary
