Hi everyone, i thought I would start a thread about my new project to see what you guys think and see if i can get some new ideas as time goes on. Bit of a back story, i have kids, i have motorbikes and i love pick ups. Problem is how to combine all 3, well after some time looking around i decided i had a plan. So i got looking for a crew cab transit truck, potentially a 6 seater truck, loads of space on the rear for my motorbikes, and a bonus RWD. So i found this truck towards the end of june, right sort of money, no rotten bed on the back to try and remove. Deal was done and i brought her home. First job was to pull out all the interior and see if there was any rot to deal with. There was but only a few bits, i had a mk6 tourneo that is rotten but had lots of good bits. Started swapping over the electric windows and mirrors, front door cards, dash ect. I swapped my seats out for 2 buckets i had and the carpets from the tourneo. Once the inside was done i needed to get it an MOT, so i ordered some twin wheeled mudguards and made some simple mounts, a few new tyres and 1 abs sensor later it went through its MOT. So now with the mot in hand i could start to play, first of was the rear suspension, it had extra heavy duty springs, so i pulled 2 out of the 4 of and things headed in the right direction, only issue was the mudguards hits the tyres and mounts no2 where made. With the rear still to hard the decision was to remove the next leaf leaving just 1 full length spring. Great news the back has some bounce in it now, bad news mudguards hit the tyres again, mounts no3. So after a bit of driving the front was to hard, i decided to look at the front springs, as i thought extra heavy duty coils, so the tourneo gave up more parts. Both front shocks complete where fitted to the truck. What a massive difference. Oh and why i was swapping the front shocks i modified the mounting taps and drop the front around 75mm. Very happy with the front now just need to change the rear shocks as i think they are heavy duty and to hard still. Anyway lots of reading hope you like it so far

Nice! A very handy vehicle indeed - what's the plans for the bed? Flat as the title suggests?

These are good motors, about time they started getting some attention instead of just beat to death and scrapped. I reckon a nice pair of exhaust side stacks, chrome truck style wheels/trims and that would be it, proper mini truck Funny enough one of these has just been dumped near where I work, would love to get my hands on it.

Cool project, looking forward to seeing more. Like the idea of Tourneo interior in a truck.

Thanks guys,
I have been on a road trip today, done best part of 160 miles, the issue i have come across is the van seems like its struggling.
3000rmp and its only just hitting 60, 3250rpm and just hitting 65, 3500rpm and just getting 70,
To me its working way to hard,
Think i need to fit a boost gauge and give the engine a good service, hopefully that might help.

Well this evening i had a bit of a play, i fitted a boost gauge to see how and if the turbo is making boost,
It seems to be making boost, only shows about 6psi on the guage but the guage is about 10 years old and was a cheap one.
I plan to buy a proper turbo diesel boost gauge that starts from 0 as it wont make negative pressure.
As far as I know it should be making about 8ish psi, so hopefully its not to bad we will see when i get the new guage.
I have a bleed valve so when the new guage is fitted i might fit the bleed valve and try to up the psi a bit to see how much difference it makes

If it hasn't got a intercooler it's a 75bhp model. With intercooler it's a 90 or 120bhp. The 75 and 90 models are pretty slow, 120s go alright. I've always wanted to build a 2.4 for power but not got round to it yet.

It has an inter cooler and i know its a 90, so its not gonna brake any speed records.
I have plans to fit a bigger inter cooler maybe from an old saab or similar.
I have thought long term with this truck and i would like to go for a lexus V8, i have heard they use a standalone engine management system that only needs 5 wires to get it running, not sure how true this is but a lot of hotrod builder are choosing them over rovers ect,

A Lexus would make it properly quick. I built a 2.4 TDCi for one of the travellers at work and he had that up at the 200hp mark and it was rapid in a single cab Tipper without the bed on. More than enough to curse word people up in fast cars.

I dunno much about it TBF I just did the engine (stock rebuild pretty much) I know it's got a bigger turbo but not sure about the rest. I'll attempt a legible conversation with him next time he's in.

The later transits after about 2010 had an option of the 3.0 5cyl which produced 200hp out of the factory.
They have also made them in the states for the last 4 years with what is essentially a GT eco boost engine.

Following for updates because I’ve been having urges recently, that will probably never come to fruition, to get something like this to transport the Acty on for long distance shows.
