Thanks for the offer, I'll take you up on that if we have a disaster here. I'm not too worried now about the axles not turning from the wheels. Thinking about it seems unlikely they would coast anyway, particularly if trying to drive back through the reduction box on the single speed drive trains. My C44 chassis is built, and has run up and down the garage floor. It has transpired that DUI - Arrived in Destination City, meant that the C34's had got to Duisburg. After six days there they have now departed. By plane? Who knows.

markbognor looking great and good to hear that it has had a successful trip on the garage floor! I would interested to see which hole you have your steering servo arm/link connected into because I still think mine needs 'fettling'. Talking of which, I have a new transmitter/receiver and ESC with built in winch controller arriving at some point today so I may well be up and running again soon...

I have the link arm in the bottom hole, but I think I will move up one as well the steering has too much throw at the moment.

Going for a look round Halfords this morning to choose a colour. Something greeny/tealy I think.

Nice to have a few sets of wheels to try out π the black wheels minus rear bed makes it look like one of those Icelandic Cliff Hillclimb trucks π
I think the teal/green will look great whichever set you end up fitting.

Ford Modena Green seemed an appropriately period colour ...

My new radio gear and ESC turned up today. Unsurprisingly I have issues already!
My steering will only turn when I move the trim knob and not when I turn the steering wheel on the handset.
I know that I have the + and - round the right way because channel 3 is operating the gear selector ok.
I also bought and ESC that apparently has a winch controller built in but this cannot be the case! There is no place to plug the winch wires into.

Oh man that's rubbish. Can you plug the gearbox servo into the steering channel and see if that works as it should. It might be an issue with the servo. I can't understand how the ESC could have a winch controller - it's only operating off of one channel. Did the description perhaps mean it could be used as a winch controller on one of the channels? I presume the larger stuff does it that way. My gear change servo horn seems to have slipped on the splines, so I'll have to strip down half the truck to fix that. I have cut away a load of the engine so that I can fit the WPL combination board and a 2000mah battery up front. I've still got to decide which wheels to run. Current thinking is this one will get the smaller B series tyres (obviously 'slot mags' though, with perhaps slightly lowered suspension, for a more stock look, and the two C34's can be the lifted custom trucks with 37" tyres.

markbognor the paint looks amazing - is that just one coat with a suitable primer underneath? I have plugged the steering servo into channel 3 (gearbox) and when pressed the wheels turn. On channel 4 with a 3 position switch I get left, centre and right. I think I have figured out that you can use the ESC as a winch controller (as you rightly suggested). I just need to buy the right red connectors and try it out.

I scraped a scalpel along the mould lines but other than that very little prep. I find time and again the more effort I put into painting things the less happy I am with the finish I get. The 'advantage' of the brown base could be whenever it gets scratched it'll go realistically rusty :-)

Yes - whatever is plugged into channel 1 (steering) does not move when turning the steering wheel but will do when the trim knob is moved. Can I conclude that I have a faulty control unit?

Looking good in action. What happened to the windscreen? Can't see my Mrs sanctioning a permanent trail in the garden unfortunately. I do love the look of your plastic pipe rope bridge.

Thanks , screen fell out after a roll over on the rock climb bit of the track , itβs back in now . The plastic pipe is some old wiring conduit we had left over from wiring the garage 10 years ago , always wondered what I was going to do with it . The Passion flower clinging on to the bridge is adding a welcome bit of colour to the bridge .

diff I think I need to build an off road course! Looks awesome π Update on my C44: I now have replaced all my radio gear and have a truck that moves forwards and backwards, changes gear and even steers left and right π I have ordered a winch controller so I will (when it arrives) have a working winch again. My 5th channel will have the lights via another switch. So after many weeks and a stack of additional spend I will have a truck that does everything it was meant to originally! Sadly it has lost its V8 soundtrack βΉοΈ Next steps are to think about oil filled dampers and replacement tie rods. Oh - I have some bead lock wheels on order and believe they are now in the country. Will post up pics when they arrive.

Yesterday I added a couple of layers of lead flashing round the wide dually wheels and this evening I fitted some pipe lagging inside the wide alloys with B series tyres then glued the tyres to the rims, so theres not much going back from that now. I've also painted the mudguards black and got them fitted too. It was too wet outside for a run so just more pics from the garage.
