I went to swap the shocks over for some aftermarket oil filled ones this morning, first compress of the rear suspension and one seemed to jam, and then broke the plastic axle truss. Then followed a half out of ballache getting one off the MN style trusses of the truck that came in the (over priced and a little disappointing) bundle. It appeared to have been left damp and the m2.5 nuts and set screws holding it together had corroded solid, and of course they were made of cheese, so the cross heads rounded immediately. Once it was back together I put the original shocks back on. There was some progress though. I reset the actuator lever on the two speed and glued it in place. I also made up a little adjustable brace from two 6mm M2.5 M/F PCB stand offs. This bolts through the right chassis rail and can be wound out to the point where it prevents the gear change servo mount flexing when changed into low range. I never took an under bonnet pic before, here's the engine detail cut away to fit the V3 board and 2000mah battery.

markbognor I think I am going to have to borrow that servo brace mod although at the moment mine is going in and out of the low and high ratio gears ok. Nice to see yours running outside. My battery is on charge so I will try and get a video of mine later 😎

is super glue still the choice to stick the tyres on? That’s what I’ve been using, few dots round the rim. They occasionally break free but I’d rather than than not get them back off again.

Whooohoo C34's have arrived. I'd better get this laminate floor finished, then the boy and I can get building.

markbognor Great news and hope it has been worth the wait 👍 I think one will need to be painted and kitted up as a trans-continent expedition vehicle to reflect their epic trip over to you 😎

markbognor Great news and hope it has been worth the wait 👍 I think one will need to be painted and kitted up as a trans-continent expedition vehicle to reflect their epic trip over to you 😎 I think my C44 might become a camper actually, support/tow vehicle for one of the more dedicated crawlers. George's is getting built up with a two speed though, so mine might be the trailer queen. I might build mine up without the roof and top deck of the rear, but will have to see. We got George's body painted today, it's a Peugeot colour, a metallic pearl dark blue, the roof is gloss black and we'll break out the Molotow chrome pen for the grill/headlight surround, handles and wipers. I think it will run on the gold centres wide MN wheels - but we have a few choices in stock :-)

My RBR/C alloy 'bead locks' turned up yesterday. They come with the WPL soft tyres. The inner and outer sections don't grip well enough onto the tyre bead which then comes adrift. So to be used probably need to be glued which isn't really the point!
I am going keep my MN wheels on because the tyres seem to take the increased weight of my C44 better 😎

You aren't doing well with these things at the moment are you! I hope it gets more enjoyable once you are up and running. George and I had a bit of a play with mine in the garden today. We got it to climb a piece of OSB at just under 45 degrees - 43.4 or something - it just couldn't quite do the full 45. That was with the wheels pa part gripping part spinning and George working the steering to load up the outer wheel an gain a little more grip. The best thing about the run though was that nothing fell off!

markbognor that paint and wheel combination is going to look amazing 👍 It is pretty incredible the kind on angles that they can climb up and the brake function is useful for keeping them there!

A good news post! The C44 went out on manoeuvres in the garden today and worked fine 😁
See-saw ramp conquered, steep ramp section dismissed, boulder crossing traversed... 👍
Plus some random rear LED lights turned up so will fit them when my switch turns up.
I really ought to get another one to keep it company - what could possibly go wrong? Don't all answer at once 🙄

I was planning on using solid styrene rod - to keep the weight down up top.

GAH! I've been finding out this evening that you can't fit a two speed or metal single speed in a C34 without a pair of short driveshafts. I'd assumed that the C44 had a longer drive shaft at the rear for its longer wheelbase, but it's actually got a shorter drive shaft at the front to accommodate it's two speed box. So the boy's C34 will be running tomorrow with the kit single speed. My C34 won't run for a while because I ballsed up the gearbox assembly and now have a front drive gear the wrong way round on the shaft, well and truly locktighted into place and a rounded off grub screw. I thought I was just going to use a metal single speed in mine and my spare two speed in the boy's. His truck is looking cool though!
