Why are you ditching Prozac, he must not be living up to his name? 😉 You do surprise me Tim, you need to read the words, not just the pics. Prozac is and will continue to be one of the nicest cheap cars, in fact, the nicest cheap car I ever owned. BUT.......... Sometimes needs must. The Ford/VW/Seat is just altogether mere capable. If I had space and use for it, plus U.K. insurance rules were different...... Prozac would stay. In fact, I did offer it to Sally’s son FOC for him and his mates pitbikes when they go greenlaning, but he declined, at 19 he has a Fiesta insured and can’t afford or store another car. So it will be sold on

Rian - As you are a vehicle owner on a budget first thing I would do is get the registration number on it valued and see if you can creep a few hundred quid back into the pot - it might not be worth anything or the effort of doing it in the first place - then again you maybe pleasantly surprised - it costs nothing to ask Morning mate. I may give you a ring some time again for a chat and advice. The plate on the Galaxy is certainly a type of insurance policy and noted when I bought it. Ultimately someone needs to buy it, for it to be worth anything. But if you look at license plate sites, that format or type is advertised between £600-£1200-ish Once transferred, new plates made up for the Galaxy etc, you have X amount back in the kitty. If someone wanted it, I could be tempted for a swap for a GRZ prefix dateless plate of my choice, were they prepared to do the running work.

Nice motor Grizz.
I loved mine when I had it, and it worked hard for a living with me but never broke down. A couple of things to watch out for are the main injector loom(Common fault), the insulation can crack and cause all sorts of issues as in miss fires etc and also if it runs lumpy and hold back at any point its usually the MAF is dirty.
Cant wait to see how it progresses.

. THE ARRIVAL. Saturday Sally and I needed to get to some shops to pick up and return stuff. Of course using her car...... When we got to the shopping centre, I called Barry, the seller to see if the Galaxy was still there. Yup, it was there and for sale. I had not expected it to sell in a hurry, as he clear.y was not too bothered by it sitting on his driveway, and as shown, the advertisement was lacking in the artistic department. So we agreed that he would sell it to me, and clear out the stuff still littering the inside (not clean it, just remove grand kids toys and other items) Headed to Sheppey. Got there, cuppa tea, chat, he is a fisherman, and furniture restorer. Formerly and still has one, a keen falconer. Paperwork done, cash counted and then insured the car outside on the sidewalk by phone. Chose Esure, priced at £240.00 per year, comprehensive with Sally as a named driver. Off to the filling station as it was on reserve. Went to visit mate Darren at Unit Engineering, and his buddy Ross who knows the car were both there, approving nods and noises. Cuppa tea, chat, and a look at Darrens newest build, then headed homeward, via a car wash, as the car was DIRTY. Nice instrument cluster. Much better. And once back home, a key ring. So..... First Impressions? A really comfortable drive. High seating position. Sufficient power coupled with Auto box. Decent handling on the motorway and in twisty bits. Braking very good, seller commented brakes need work. Some bits, like rear window winder and seat adjuster need refitting. Front door cards both need replacing or tidying up. Lowering 30-45mm Bigger wheels for sure, despite 16” tyres on it being new. Needs a second set of keys cut. Needs a very good clean inside. Front Upholstery needs a shampoo. Needs a few Grizzifying touches...... to be decided and in open forum for ideas. More later.

Go on, tell me what will make it different, but functional.

I sometimes lose the will to live with the words as you repeat them so much on multiple forums, well only this one and FB now. Shame you'll lose two weeks tax and he'll lose a month. I may be interested in Prozac and what size tyres are on the Galaxy? I have a set of 17 inch on my Mundano which could be swapped. MAF=Mass air flow sensor

Guten Tag! A Galaxy.... My experience with this cars are not the best....! I worked over 10 years at a VW dealership and this cars ruin many owners. Quality is not the best in every meaning... I hope you have luck with this example...the engine itself is the best in this car. Greet

Good buy at that money and really handy for hauling tat or in my case grandchildren!
Keep an eye on rear caliper handbrake actuators as they can seize and handbrake cables, both easy stuff. Don't know if the autobox is the same but was of Renault origin can be problematic as they have an ECU that can play up but usually at high miles. Front suspension takes a hammering so TCA's and ball joints go but cheap and easy, also drive shafts. Its a heavy car but they are easy to work on.
By the way that's an early Mk2 sometimes referred to as Mk1 phase 2.
Seats come out but they weigh much more than you'd think !
Springs are a quick fix and not too expensive, they also reduce the body roll without sacrificing ride too much.

Springs are a quick fix and not too expensive, they also reduce the body roll without sacrificing ride too much. Tat hauler for sure. No grand kids. Will keep an eye on stuff like brakes yes, will get it on a ramp over next weekend to just take a look and ensure maintenance is up to scratch. Hopefully 106k miles is not too high for the auto trans. Front end I read everywhere was a weak spot, in fact I see it as just maintenance items, after all, the layout and geometry would all contribute to wear and tear,,so,as long as access and replacement is not too complex and inaccessible, it’s just work that needs to be done from time to time. Have changed the title slightly to reflect Mk1 Ph2 Seats were a piece of pie, Sally lifted them like they were a pink pram from Toys Were Us, but they are weighty. Springs...... HMMMMMMMMMM.........Would replacing them bring the whole, car down a bit? Sounds like a plan worth investigating I just looked at the reg and saw NG GGRAM - aN9io99RAM - funny how the mind works sometimes ! - Looks a useful hauler. Will you be getting a Galaxie badge for it Clever head you have, I smiled at your reading the plate. I think it will be just more useful than the surprise that became Prozac. As for badging, who knows.

Springs can be had in somewhere between 25-40mm lower, i'd go 30mm for best all round balance.
My Mk1 Sharan (AFN 1.9tdi non PD) was on 198k when I outed it only because doing the clutch was more than the car was worth.

Saw these 18” VW wheels as well online last night, for sale at £175.00 Add in tyres and fitting and it’s a fair chunk..... But I do like them too. Not that common Woke this morning and fed the cat at 05.30 then snoozed, OK, not really, laid reading forums. Later Sally made a cuppa and then I had to go look at the car, you know, just to see if it was still there. Yup, still there, and made me smile, exactly like Prozac and my C10 did and continues to do. Pretty tidy car I thought. Took a walk around, getting more of a feel for its failings, and it has some. Loved these “fixes” as terrible as they are. Mirrors locked in position out front too. No idea why all the gloopy bathroom silicone but plan is to dismantle and investigate, unless I can find exact replacements very cheaply. Passenger side. Drivers side. Sally brought her big machine from the loft too last night. This girl has been absolutely amazing and a star through all of this, challenging me as to the need for a new car, but also ferrying me over to fetch the Galaxy yesterday, then climbing in today helping me with cleaning it etc. The seats and armrests out front are kinda grubby and need a valet or scrubbing. Door panels need some refitting and hopefully it will look better after I sort them. Right now....... Rubbish. Passenger side even worse. Was chatting to Dennis in St Louis, his son married Hanna yesterday and it seems it was a very large, very successful day. Never seen the man looking so smart, remember, he does not even go to this level for a funeral. Also chatting with Andy in Tulsa Oklahoma about how good and bad the car is. The 16” tyres are almost new too, another bonus. Adds to the feeling that this is a decent buy.

I used to run my 1.9tdi galaxy on Audi A4 B6 sport wheels. 7.5j x 17. They filled the arches nicely. The offset on original wheels sit in far too much.
