Hi. Long time lurker here...and about time I got my hands dirty more often.
I want to purchase a grease gun. I'd rather pay for something that will last and will do the job properly. It needs to have a flexible hose fitting, and (if it's relevant) should be suitable for mostly Japanese 4x4's.
Any recommendations?

I have a Laser grease gun with the optional attachment. It's not too bad to be fair .

I also have a Laser grease gun. I have about 6 grease guns. The thing about grease guns is... they all seem to end up being a bit sh*t once they're plastered in grease. They never seem to retain their full grease pumping ability.
I personally wouldn't waste too much effort or money on buying a super expensive grease gun. They're rarely any better than a cheaper one after a while.
I generally buy them at car booters or autojumbles for a tenner and clean/fix them up to get a few uses out of them before they start misbehaving again.

Thanks for the replies. I've been looking at the Laser grease guns, Draper guns, and the ones that Machine Mart sell. The tools I've had from Machine Mart have lasted me well, but who knows...always seems to be a bit of lottery whether branded tools break first time they're used or last forever Looking at this one...

Tbh all the ones mentioned are cheap cr4p very occasional use hobby stuff that won’t last long, or for many uses.
If you want a genuinely good one buy something like a teclemit or Sykes pickavant designed for sustained professional use. You can pick em up reasonably second hand.

Work buy those cheapo Laser type ones. They're fine for about 2 weeks then wazz as much grease on the floor as they do down the nipples. I've got a hand me down from Grandad one that I use at home and it's never leaked, think it's a Sykes one.

I've had a Wanner grease gun for years, great bit of kit, and tough as old boots.

I've had a Wanner grease gun for years, great bit of kit, and tough as old boots. I also have a Wanner, but that also started playing up after a couple of years. The problem with mine is that you pack it full of grease, then it looks like its pumping grease when tested in the air, and when it's on the nipple it feels like its pumping grease, but it's actually just pumping the grease back behind the pump plate and it all oozes out of the back of it. Havent got around to taking that one apart to investigate the problem yet. That's why I bought the Laser. I didnt have time to dismantle the Wanner and fix the problem.

Has all the posts above talk about which brand I thought I would express comments on what type - I have a trigger type that is very useful over the lever type - it means that can be used single handed leaving the other hand to hold the feed pipe on to the nipple if its in a awkward place - cartridge type are also easier & cleaner to load than having to faff spooning it out of a bucket / tin and attempting to pack it into the gun barrel - some will fill with suction by drawing the plunger rod back but its still a more messy job than it needs to be - I will echo the point made in the other posts though regarding the cheaper end of the market - purchase a decent quality one it should last you a significant time - If you want to get real lazy you can even purchase cordless powered ones - the greasing points of most modern cars of the last 20 - 30 years have largely disappeared with manufactures fitting sealed for life units but the older end of the market motors that I favour are littered with grease nipples with some points requiring attention every 500 miles dependant upon make & model type

I use a standard lever type grease gun everyday and its just a no brand one that we put on diggers etc. All I have done is change the to one with a lever on it. I use it at least 5 times a day. On anything fro 10 to twenty nipples!!! It is a stainless steel one but still a cheapie. I do have access to a rechargeable one but I prefer the hand type. Go to a tractor/agriculture supply place for one....

The grease guns I really love are the ones that seem to work, then you put them on the nipple and start pumping but nothing seems to happen... then you take the end off to see what's wrong and like an air cannon it rockets a log of grease into orbit.

Hard to beat the 500g screw on type, no mess and empties the cartridge.

I have a old Wanner grease gun that I inherited from my father. I also have a cheapo unbranded local tool shop grease gun.
The Wanner grease gun does a great job but is a rigid type and for certain things it can be difficult to use depending on the position of the grease nipple. I bought the cheapo grease gun as it came with a flexible tube rather than the rigid metal on the Wanner. The cheapo grease gun does seem to do its job but I must admit it doesn't get used very often and is sat in the toolbox drawer for occasional use when I cant use the other grease gun due to access etc.
