Had enough of the thrust bearing rattling it's head off, i want to do more to the B2500, but have been having thoughts of going petrol instead of Diesel. by the time i buy a clutch kit, give the injectors a good clean etc etc... it all mounts up, so, i have been thinking of going Zetec, duratec? one guy suggested a Scorpio lump and box, but these are quite old now, maybe a `galaxy lump in rwd form? I don't want to spend too much, but i want something simple, parts can be easily purchased etc etc... and a cheaper option would be to have a carb version rather than throttle bodies etc.... i am not looking at breaking any speed limits, your thoughts?

30 less ft/lbs, you’ll notice that. Seems pointless to me.

Yes, you need torque for hauling stuff about not power.

On the street, driving day-to-day, it’s torque you notice not horsepower.
Especially in a vehicle that’s most definitely heavier than an Mx5 to start with.

I presume its a RWD B2500, in which case the lack of torque compared to the diesel lump won't be thst noticeable in day to day use. Unless the gear ratios are completely to pot, and the pickup is used to haul fully loaded all the time And as for weight, probably not as much as you'd think. As MX-5 arent all that light, and the RWD pickups aren't as heavy as you'd expect

Thanks guy's for the input, as mk2cossie mentioned, I don't use the truck as a workhorse anymore, i have an engine that is the early type, been struggling to find the same thermo housing and having got absolutely nowhere, i can't be bothered to try anymore, if anything goes wrong with it outside of the normal i am stuck, i am not after breaking the speed record or anything along those lines, the gearbox is rattling even more, the injectors need replacing, the tappets need adjusting it's getting tired, to find another box, or to change the clutch and give it a full service including sonically clean this and that, i may as well buy a complete car, i am looking at an MX5 1800 def' this week, complete runner, £350, and as the truck does not weigh anywhere near as much as these monsters of today, ie... the raptor, the killer, the invincible smasher etc etc (does make me laugh) i reckon it should work? Plus i will have everything i need to install the parts, and hopefully there may be some interest in whats left of the shell?
I will, update the page as time moves on, hopefully i will still be able to sit down (without my backside stinging and my 'common sense' left in a dishevelled state!)

picked up the Mazda mx5 yesterday, what a mess! it was done up to do charity shows help for heroes etc.... engine runs very well, i can only just get in it! i had a can opener to get me out! jesus! obviously made for small people! The really good thing...... is that it has been lowered all round, with what look to be quite nice shocks and springs, they don't look cheap either! so hopefully, after all the necessary bits are removed, i will either remove them and sell separate from the car, or sell the whole car as a rolling chassis, watch the for sale section!
