When I bought the Galaxy, the old guy said that the battery was suspect and at three weeks it would struggle but start the car. Knowing this, I have used it at least every week or two since then. However, possibly for the last two weeks it has stood with cold rubbish weather possibly not helping. So an hour ago I tried to start it, almost but no cigar. So it needs a new battery. Euro car parts have an ongoing or intermittent 50% discount offer Opinions on what to buy or not. I do prefer cheap/sensible pricing. Thank you.

Just go for whoever has a multi year guarantee. I'm sure my last Bosch had a 5 year guarantee from gsf, keep your receipt and when it goes Pope I year 4 go back and get replacement.
Ecp near me is 100% more hassle than my gsf. Maybe Halfords may offer a decent warranty.
I'm sure battery life is getting worse.

The Eurocarparts warranty is pretty good, I took a Bosch S4 back after three and a half years and they changed it without any arguments, they didn't even want to check it. I don't recommend the Bosch S4 btw.the second one died as well.

Out of that list it would be the Exides. Recently they are the only ones which seem to work well IME.
I also second avoiding Boschs with a barge pole. S3s and S4s have been OK, but I've killed 3 S5s on two cars and every friend I know with one has too, including one friend who left his half of the time on an Optimate maintener.
Warranties are trickier these days. My local ECP now has a capacitance tester, which can make claiming for a new battery trickier ; Halfords tried that tact with me with my S5, claiming my alternator was bad (they checked it and then were befuddled seeing as it was working; yes it was that much of a pain to get a replacement out of them).
Lion batteries are very hit and miss. Some work and some don't. If it doesn't work, it'll make for tricky returning as some aren't even the spec they claim to be out of the box. Put it this way. I got an Exide battery for my dad's 535d last week ; I never fitted the battery but bought it as my dad and I both needing working cars due to a family situation, so I pulled the trigger on a battery, my dad being convinced it was. Without installing the battery I found that poor connections at the existing battery were the case. Problem solved.
When I went to return the battery, despite it beng unused, they still tested the battery prior to me returning it at ECP.
Warranties are handy, make no mistake but hassle can be had and when your car is dead at the side of the road you just want to get away from that situation.
As an aside however: -Have you charged the battery in it to see if it charges up? Halfords can test the battery for you if needby ; or a Foxwell BT-100 capacitance tester can shed some light. -Have you checked for a drain using the multimeter method?

I have a small battery USB charged power pack for use when your battery is dead. 30 quid from Amazon.
Like ChasR I'm dependent on our cars so having this got us going a couple of times this winter.
I also keep a spare Bosch charged just in case.

When I was looking for one for the RV, (just needed to be > 1000CCA and terminals the right ends) Halfords at regular price was cheaper than ECP on 50% sale for the one I chose (supposedly for a VW Touareg as it happens). Halfords also actually had one in stock too..

Look at the tanya batteries site. All those branded batteries are much much cheaper on there.

I am impressed by Yuasa batteries. Have several on my cars, and they have been good for cars not used often.

I am impressed by Yuasa batteries. Have several on my cars, and they have been good for cars not used often. For any car not used often I’d wager a smart charger. It’s probably saved me around £200 in batteries by occasionally putting my CTEK into cars on batteries just to top them up to the max, which short journeys/getting the battery flat won’t tend to be fixed from just charging the car alone. With the quick connectors it’s easy to switch from car to car too, where batteries aren’t all that easy to get to.

One more for Tayna on the bay of evil , they do all sorts including named brands if that's your thing. I changed the battery on my Galaxy for one of their 4 year guarantee jobs and it was fine. They deliver to your door next working day as well.
I wouldn't be seduced by brands just go by specs, guarantee and price.

If you have one nearby I would suggest an agricultural dealership. Last time I bought new, they were a lot cheaper than the any motor factors. Downside is they are mostly quite large. Most recent bargain was from a garage that services security vans. They have two big batteries in each van for the alarm which must be renewed every 12 months. So possibly have just sat there getting a trickle charge now and again.
