Hey all,
In amongst the campervan restoration, I'm wanting to update the cabinets inside. I spent yesterday starting to remove the vinyl wrap but realised that the top openers have a wood effect covering on them much more difficult to remove without causing damage.
Originally we were thinking we were going to paint the units. I believe this is still possible with painting the exposed wood and roughing up the wood effect covering however I'm now considering varnishing the exposed wood and vinyl wrapping the top openers to create a kitchen worktop effect.
Has anyone done anything similar? What did you do? How was the finish? Has it stood the test of time?
Although I know they won't look new forever, we do have two dogs and two children so need something relatively durable. TIA x

I have! I covered various surfaces with self-adhesive decorative foil. The edges I uses a little transparant silicon sealant on. Only those edges I forgot are pealing a little now 4 years later. The rest is still on. Other things I simply painted.
When we first got the van.
The wooden doors are all painted. The surfaces around the kitchen are all covered in this foil and also the inside of the cabinets. White walls have been painted also.
And I can't find a picture at the moment with how it looks now

We bought a salvage 1986 American class C motorhome in July of this year. However, the interior was destroyed by water damage, and so we have stripped it out almost completely. We are now in the process of rebuilding the internal furnishings.
