Bit of a problem today, went locally to collect a gearbox today, bagged it up tight, but as you have probably guessed, its leaked everywhere inside the back of the estate, My new, kin expensive estate, and it stinks, not only that, getting the box out of the car, the box slipped out of my grasp and poured a good quantity of oil all over the drive, Bumhats, 2 questions, Q1, I have removed as much of the boot floor as possible, which I have soaped with washing up liquid, jet washed, sprayed with a degreaser, jet washed, carpet cleaner, jet washed, and the bits are in the back garden sunning themselves, it still stinks and I need that smell gone....
Q2, How do I get it out of the drive, I mopped and wiped it the best I could do, then rightly or wrongly covered with cement powder, my problem here is where I dropped the oil is the main thoroughfare into the house, so, to prevent there being a trail of EP70 walked thru the house, I really need to get every trace of oil out of the drive,
I need help to sort Both of these problems, ASAP

I feel for you!
For the car I would suggest copious amounts of bicarbonate of soda, lots.
What is the driveway material? Block, paving, tarmac?

If you have kitty litter stuff this may help to soak some up and leave overnight however I guess as you already have tried, excuse the pun, but elbow grease will be needed. Good luck

Brake cleaner is good for getting it off the floor at work. Worth a try

Head & shoulders shampoo. Put on undiluted and let it sit for a while. Then wash away. As for car carpet thinners will remove the remaining oil, then let it air for a bit. I was a car valeter for many years. And we used thinners as a dry cleaner.

My Father always used to put washing powder on oil stains once you had mopped up the majority. It works on concrete but not sure about tar.

I can smell it from here 🥴 worst automotive smell you can find. I'm sorry to say - I've never had any luck getting the smell out. To the point were I bin my clothes that I get it on instead of making the washing machine and everything that goes in it stink for the next 6 months! I wish you luck in your endeavours - post an update if you sort it!

Today I have mostly been cleaning interior, fortunately, the oil dosent seem to have got beyond the boot floor, which comes out with 2 bolts and a clip, Last night I did Fairy liquid, scrubbed in, jet washed, you could still scrape the oil off the carpet with your thumb, Brake cleaner, pretty much the same, another solvent cleaner I had did a bit better, but not well enough, this morning its still thick and greasy now it has dried I'm now at the nothing to lose position, so off to Screwfix Website, and purchased a gallon of "NO NONSENSE" degreaser, It says use diluted 5:1 , unless heavily soiled, so I used it neat, scrubbed it in pulled it down with a squeegee scrubbed it again with degreaser, then jet washed it, took about half an hour of Jet washing to stop the suds coming out of the carpet, BUT, I cant smell cats pee at the moment, I will update tomorrow with a state of the carpet address. And as a bonus, the stuff has had a remarkable effect on the oil that got spilt on the drive too, Tomorrow chaps

I've got oil off drives with washing powder with a little water just to make it wet , then a very stiff hand brush of wire brush yo agitate for a few minutes then leave. Washing powder will strip your hands so it powerful stuff.
As for the carpets it might be a good idea for the same with a load of the oxy type stain remover powder. Either that or some carpet stains remover. I only say that as I have a bottle of dr Beckman which smells like dry cleaning solvent which might dissolve the oil out if it.

Think you're stuck with it mate. One of the cadets at the office spilt some in the back of the Hiace we had years ago. The smell never went away. I could think of worse smells to be stuck with though.

Fair play for getting stuck in, I threw some gear oil covered rags away in my wheelie bin about a month ago after I changed the diff oils in my jeep and merc. Even though the bins been emptied 4 times you can still smell the gear oil every time you open the lid 🤦♂️

I feel your pain, did it to my wife's company Passat estate once with an Alfasud gearbox... As already said kitty litter on drive than diet Coke is good as the phosphoric acid in it helps break down the stain / smell. Cheap coke doesn't work as well as probably not enough acid. My wife did this when I skipped town for work leaving a land rover axle leaking in the attached garage. I can be very popular... For the carpet I just did about 20 soak rinse repeat using biological washing liquid and hot water and got there in the end but it was very painful. Wear gloves as the biological will ruin your skin. oday, I drove the car for the first Time, left it in the sun for about 4 hours, the floorboard was back in the car, but the side cover still smelt this morning, so I did not refit this, TBH with a spray of fabrize, the car was quite tollerable, I managed to find a side cover this morning on the dreaded Evilbay so I duly purchased it.

Oxalic acid ( wood bleach) is pretty good, sold as deck cleaner (100 % natural as in rhubarb leaves) it will remove grease and rust stains, a household cleaner "Elbow Grease" is a good de-greaser citric acid in this one, Caustic soda will also work on your drive but remember to neutralise and rinse off with water for obvious reasons, Everybody seems to have their own favourites for this type of task.

Just pour loads more oil on the tarmac drive, spread with a soft broom - then deny everything when it rains.
*I have not tried this but I will one day!

Cheap coke doesn't work as well as probably not enough acid. My dodgy upbringing made me think 'curse word the cheap coke, acid will probably give you something else to think about for a while.....' sorry... As for bad oil transportation methods I needed some oil for an old beetle and was in a panic as I didn't tighten the bolts around the oil strainer in the sump and it all came out - went to a mates and the only container anywhere was a 4 litre filling jug. Using my mums mini I tried my best to drive gently on the way home but really made a mess of the carpet. Used washing powder and a steamer but bought the carpet back so well it was a different colour - had to do the whole car. She never found out!
