Cheap vodka, mix 50/50 with water, spray all the upholstry & carpets with it. Allow to dry. Repeat as necessary.
Alternatively, sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the upholstry & carpets. Leave for a few minutes then vacuum up.
Both are pretty good natural deodourisers.

Be careful with the steamer, can make foam in old seats disintegrate. Ask me how I know....

Beg borrow or buy a wet n dry vac and do every thing and leave it open after on a hot day .
Scrub everything , door cards , dashboard , windows , pull out all bits of dash and console like cubby holes etc and wash them in the sink . Same with seat beats . Even the headliner well .
I use water with washing machine detergent in and a standard seat cleaner .
Basically anywhere smoke could have soaked into !

Hi I purchased a 205 GTI that had been smoked in I sprayed "Frosch" Soda based cleaner that takes all the smell out of the car I soaked all the seats door cards Headlining and left he car for 3 days with all the doors open in the garage and repaeated it one more time and the smell was gone. Clean the window rubbers and the glas in all the corners. make sure to replace the A/C filter. Clean the A/C condensor with a cleaner (Liqui Moly) specially for this to get rid of the dirt etc. on it.

well today the Mrs has cleaned the headlining and all interior plastics with a solution of water-bicarb-white vinegar swapping the solution regularly and they have come up like new. we have steamed the seats [quick once over] and carpets, and cleaned all the glass twice, doors have been open on it all day today and its all dry already been out to it after a couple of hours and i'd say the smell has 90% gone gonna give the seats another go with the steamer, and see where we are from there there is no air freshener of any kind in it at the moment so our noses are just on the problem we are trying to fix

I got one of those air freshener bombs that you can get off amazon. Seems to last a fair while.

Go to your local coffee shop (well anyone that is open) and ask them for the coffee grounds. Liberally sprinkle them around all around the car and leave for a few days. Vacuum up and it will have removed a lot of the smell. Rinse and repeat. Did this in my wife's car after one of my nephews threw up in the back seat after drinking a pint of chocolate milk, didn't tell anyone and left it parked for 2 months over lock down in the rather pleasant June weather.... It works. P.

its a couple of days on and we have not been in the car since it had its second steaming of the seats yesterday afternoon [it spent all day yesterday with doors and hatch open], we sat in it this evening and I would say we are about 95% there
I will give the seats another once over with the steamer and that will be it, in pain with my hand at the moment as I had to break up a fight between our two jack russells, cut my left thumb to pieces and today it has swelled with pain also, over the phone doc appt got me some antibiotics, I am covered with tetanus already.

Get yourself a doner kebab and leave it in the car overnight..
Having used incense sticks to get rid of a smell indoors in the past, I can vouch for them working, id id be sure to keep an eye on them if using them in the car.

Cut an onion into 3 pieces and leave in the car for a night. They'll absorb a lot of smell. The next night, put a couple of oranges studded with cloves into it. That'll get rid of the smell of onion!

Whether you believe you can, or you cannot, you're probably right.

Bit late to the party, but don't forget to clean the seatbelts and the headliner. This is where most of the smell goes. You could also try a cheap ozone generator, or hire one. They are good for getting rid of the smell.

headliner, belts, seats, carpets were all cleaned which almost nailed it, I think now she is using the car whats left isnt noticable now.
