I am in the process of building an A Series Engine (A+ 1275 - 1310). I have new Timing Gears and Chains and New Woodruff Keys.
The gears are easy enough to get onto the Cam and Crank without any play but when I fit the Woodruff Key - no chance. I have knocked the key in as far as I dare and tried to get the gear on the crank. It goes down so far but then gets stuck and would need a good belt to get it on and then would be a Puller job to get it off. Not tried the Cam Gear yet, but I need to be able to get this on and off as I will be timing using offset keys.
What is the recommended solution, gently file down the key, or the keyway? I only had Wet and Dry or Needle Files?
