I have a mini that I'm converting to spi, i bought an inlet and its missing some parts. I also have bought a spi unit from a corsa, it was listed for 1.2 1.3 1.4, and its a much nicer system than the rover one. Now, the thing is, ive noticed its only 35mm. The rover one is 40.
The engine will have 998cc, probably a evo0001 minispares cam, standard head, so itll be about 50 bhp i think. Is 35mm too small?
I could wait for the mini one to come on ebay, but they go for like £100, and i can adapt the corsa one easily, and i think itll be easier to control with the speeduno.
thanks

My (limited) understanding is that if the engine it came from made the sort of power you're expecting to make then it'll be fine?
But IIRC Vauxhalls little engines were dialled back in power by the inlet? And A Series engines are already limited by the Siamese inlet ports?
But I may be talking complete rubbish!
Might be worth a post on TMF? They have an SPI/MPI section in technical...

It’s basically the same as a single 1.5”SU.
So should be fine on a 998 but a bit small for a 1275.

I assume it was from a Corsa B? the 1.2 used a different injector to the 1.4 so I guess they flow different rates of fuel? if your unsure try and get some part numbers off the body or injector and I can try and check

thanks for the replies. tmf is good, i use it to post about my mini project, but when it comes to the technical, everyone wants to tell you what you havnt asked, and there is a german guy on there who i cant stand. I always ask on here instead lol i think the 35mm is more like 1 3/8 so 1/8 under 1 1/2, so that is why i was wondering. I think the hif38 is the best carb for the 998 the hif44 too big. this is the first spi unit i bought, it arrived with a damaged injector though corsa 1.4 petrol spiand then i bought this one which looks identical click hereas we say though the 40mm one was fitted to the 1275, i see the bosch one is fitted to a lot of other cars from the 90s like the lada niva! I could just use the hif38 but i think they go out of tune, and if i am fitting a crank sensor etc and this speeduino seafox, i may as well got he whole way.. what you you all think? thanks!

Yes, 35 slightly smaller than 38 obviously, but the throttle body does not have the restriction of the jet bridge and will probably flow more air than the SU. HIF38 is plenty big for a 998 anyway.

right thanks, the only bit I'm concerned about now is the bar with the butterfly on it looks really restrictive. It has a return spring both ends so not sure how much of that could be removed! i think as standard the motor is 46 bhp, its from a late metro, 10.3:1, if i add the cam, maybe another 5-6, so most i think would be 55 bhp, 1.2 is 44 bhp. They fitted this type on the lada niva 21213, i think that was 1600cc. I don't know if it was the same choke size.
