2x Mk2 Ford Granada Ghia's C904KAV & B396LLR were taken from a yard in Guildford, Surrey at some point in the 3 weeks up to 10th October 2020 when the theft was discovered. C904KAV is a Ghia which has mk1 steel wheels fitted. The interior & bumpers are missing from this car. B396LLR is a Ghia which has the Ghia alloys fitted. Both cars are described as average condition with rust & scuffs but were going to be restored & put back on the road. Both cars were hiab'd over a fence.

Afew years ago my Mk2 granada was stolen. Its pretty obvious where it ended up. Whilst not all banger racers would steal a car to race, there are bad apples out there that would. There is an all granada meeting planned for next year, don't expect these to be the last sadly.

What is the feckin point of banger racing!?!?! Let's "buy" an expensive classic car and destroy it huh huh that's fun mate.
I've asked about a Volvo 940 for sale and the seller has been offered £1500 from several banger racers, why would you spend that much money on a car only to destroy it! Especially when it is a one owner from new and 87k mile car in very good condition.

I've never liked banger racing. I get the whole "give a car one last thrill, go out with a bang thing" but there is no doubt there are some cars that should not be there. A nasty old 15yo Focus or a grotty Vectra, fine but cars that a older, rarer and are restored by other just shouldn't be there. It creates a trend of stealing classics to partout then smash up, and i really really hate people that just like to take something nice and destroy it. Just my opinon.

Do they not have to register the car as scrapped once they going to put it round track, therefore they wouldn't have the logbook, and this would raise red flag it's been nicked? Does that sound too honest, they just race it and to hell with any paperwork?
Maybe DVLA should pay the organisers a visit; too busy fining people going 31 in a 30 zone though!

In terms of getting rid after, I've scrapped two cars myself - neither was I asked for the V5. The first, I cut the shell into bits with a 9" grinder, the second was hi-abed away as a bare bodyshell once every usable part was removed. A friend also had a donor car bodyshell removed with a hi-ab and wasn't asked for documents. I don't know if docs are required by the organisers of banger events... but even then it's not hard to change the IDs. DVLA don't fine people for speeding

You can take a car/bodyshell to any reputable recycling centre - but if there is no chassis number/engine they will just buy it by weight - and will not notify DVLA it has been scrapped so it sits as existing somewhere with the last registered owner - unless of course they or insurance company notify it as stolen.
I had a car I bought legit for spares, I took what I wanted, sold the rest as bits and the national metal recyclimg company explained the above to me - so in theory it is still registered in my name - (because there was no engine/gearbox) as I am not able to tell DVLA I have scrapped it as I am not an authorised treatment centre -
feels like the system doesnt quite work to me.

Ive sent a letter to dvla saying that the car has been broken up by me, and received the ‘you’re no longer the owner’ letter’ If all else fails at least you can show that you tried Maybe I’ve been lucky

Haven't done it recently but I will have to soon as I'm parting this out once I've sorted the 7 series

I've broke 7 cars for parts, the scrapyard that collects the bare shells fills in the yellow part of the V5 and I send it off to the DVLA and get a letter saying I'm no longer the registered keeper. Whichever scrapyard takes the shell should be filling in that part of the V5 with their details for you.
