Hello one, hello all.
It is time to part with my Citroen BX, I bought it last August with the intention of using it as my daily driver - which I did on and off, I have covered 4k miles or so over the last 14 months. I have a thread about my experiences with this car here.
When I bought it, it had been neglected and needed way more work than I had anticipated to get back on the road and driving well. Some of the highlights of the jobs I've done are as follows, I have a full and complete parts spend list for this car but I now know my wife periodically reads my posts and so I won't be posting that here!! Hello dear! Sorry yes, the main bits I've done:
- Shot blasted and powder coated the wheels gun metal grey and had all 5 wheels shod with new Michelin Crossclimate tyres.
- New clutch.
- New timing belt and tensioner.
- All filters and fluids (literally all of them, new coolant, new engine oil, new gearbox oil, new LHM fluid about 25 times).
- New boost control diaphragm in the fuel injection pump.
- New turbocharger (replaced the original thinking I was fixing a problem that I actually fixed with the part above).
- New spheres.
- New rear trailing arm bearings.
- New front brakes.
- New alternator and LHM pump belts.
- New windscreen.
It goes on, as I say the idea was for this to be my daily so I needed it to be reliable and have good tyres.
With great thanks to Matfenwick on here, the car is now running and driving again. Mat sold me a good used power steering cylinder to replace the original unit that failed a few weeks ago and which left the car undriveable. Whilst the BX was off the road, I bought a replacement car (slightly too new for here unfortunately) and then transferred the insurance to that, leaving the BX uninsured and with dwindling MOT, up at the 25th of this month.
The last MOT was no trouble and I can't see this one being any different.
Current known issues:
- She is no show winner, every panel has a dent or a mark of some kind, the front and back bumpers have been painted pretty badly in the past but it all sort of suits the car somehow and it does still present well after a wash.
- The car proudly displays a badge that reads 'ABS' on the bootlid however I can tell you, after a cat ran out in front of me and I gave the brakes the biggest test of their life, this car does not have ABS! The ABS warning light on the dash illuminates and extinguishes again after starting up so not sure what that is about. The cat survived also.
- The fuel preheater on the back of the block had a good sweat of fuel on it when I last looked up there, could just be a duff old hose and an old hose clip that needs replacing, not quite sure and a right pig to get at so I left it, rather than poke at it and likely make it worse.
- The LHM system pressure regulator ticks quite frequently however everything LHM based seems to work as it should.
- Front fog lights not working - wiring is all ok, however one of the light units has corroded away so badly a bulb won't fit in it anymore, other side getting that way.
- Missing interior A pillar trim panels.
A staggering amount of electrical items still function properly, electric central locking, electric windows and sunroof, stereo, all of the interior lights. The engine is fantastic and must have been a revelation in its day, it is a XUD7TE, a 1.8L turbo charged diesel engine, completely mechanical, very frugal (averaging 52mpg but will do more on a long steady jaunt) and suits the car really well. The suspension works well and provides a very supple ride. I have one key for it and I am the 6th owner, it is currently on around 89000 miles, logbook is with me, in my name and address.
There are a few spares that will go with the car, a Haynes manual (albeit not covering the diesel engine but covers everything else), a set of brake pads, a ball joint or two, one rear light cluster, some LHM return pipes, there might be more. It is a little box full of potentially very useful bits and pieces.
Payment will be a bank transfer and please remember I am just a man selling a car, not a car trader so unless you can prove you are insured to drive it, I haven't got an insurance policy on this car now so I can't take it on the road, I can however stick it up on the ramp for an inspection and it can be driven up and down my short driveway to show that it all works.
Happy to hear offers but try to stick closer to 10% off the asking price not 50% and if you happen to be from a long way away, that is your problem and your cost, not mine sorry.

A couple of recent pictures below, my thread on the car is probably the best resource for pictures, I can send you some more if you're interested:
Spent a few hours polishing and waxing it a couple of months ago, came up well!
