I'd go with Wordpress. It's a little bit techy but the best supported with lots of free themes and ways to lay out your pages. You'd need to set up a domain with a provider that supports it - most do. My provider (Heart Internet) will install it for you right out of the box and the cost for the site and server space over a year is around £50.

I've heard that Retro-Rides is quite good for keeping a record of your motoring adventures! This. I see little point in a Personal blog these days. How are people going to find it? Unless you’re just going to go around posting links to it in other places saying ‘look at my blog’, which kinda Defies the point of having a personal blog. By using a forum you get passing traffic, more to the point it’s passing traffic that is more likely than any other user to actually be interested in the subject material.

So which sub-forum would be suitable? They're not ongoing projects or show cars...I don't own most of them.

I’d just bang it in readers rides. Quite a few people (including myself) have a sort of rolling thread covering both current and historic vehicles. If you’re doing it as a sort of chronological car history with little side tales about happenings with each one, it’ll read pretty well I think.

Personally I wish there were more blogs (and forums) again, I really dislike this facebook page/group thing as it really ghetto-ises content, for the profits of large manipulative corporations. I've run a few blogs before and Wordpress is the good default. It can be unwieldy if you want to add lots and lots of extras to it, but straight out the box it is more than a good performer. Anti spam add-ons are a must though, the best of which have a small fee associated with them. You could start up a Wordpress site for free and then ramp up to the £36 a year option for more control : wordpress.com/pricing/ . I'd also look at Wix if you want a bit more control over your layout and want an easy way customise the site. Medium is another option, it is very much a Blogging platform with a capital B, its content tends towards the long form thought piece type stuff, but there is no reason you couldn't use it to talk about shonky old cars. It would be my personal choice if I were to start up a personal blog about something. The important thing is always going to be the content. There is no reason you can't do what pinderwagen does and paste posts in here where relevant, it gives you a reason to link your blog to a different audience and gives us a nice bit of content too, so is win win

I'll add Ghost blog as another option.
I use it for a small blog (mostly for publishing how-to stuff so its easily shared with others when the question inevitably gets asked on a Facebook group).
Like Medium, it's paired back to focus on the content but is straightforward to add pictures etc.

I use Blogger which is pretty good and easy enough to use, although perhaps a little bit basic, so it suits me. I think the start up and first year was £30, and I think from there on it was £20 a year. I just write my little bit of babble, plop a couple of photos in it, then after having a read through to make sure I've got less spelling mistakes than most car magazines I post it, and add a link in my little thread of babble here on Retro Rides for anyone who might be interested to go and have a look at.

Please excuse the resurrection;- newish old boy here who keeps following links found elsewhere.
Is this a thing on RR? There was mostly pictorial car history thread on JagChat, but I am the only person who has contributed to it for a couple of years. The main problem I found was the failure to photograph every acquisition, especially in pre phone camera days, and the loss in house moves of the majority of the photos which I did bother to take.

Great suggestions here.
I use Wordpress too, but with a URL. (www.leylandlegends.com). It’s nothing much but it gets a little more traffic than you expect. I do sometimes do what Pinderwagon does but things have been very busy lately.
If appropriate or bordering on almost not, I’ll write them here. I’m surprised at the response of some of the threads.
The newer stuff I used to include on PH, but I keep going from visiting it to not visiting it. I try to filter out the stuf I don’t like (I.e some attitudes). That said, it looks amazing compared to Facebook these days.
It would be nice for forums to make a comeback
