walked past a tipper truck one the other day and thought, "you know if I had to have a small lorry it would be one of these", immediately followed by the thought, "but cooler of course" A quick look hasn't thrown up any easy to find pics but I can't imagine there isn't a small corner of the internet dedicated to making this type of vehicle look cooler. After all we live in a world where Dekotora is a thing.

I've long been having dirty thoughts about a cabstar, albeit the more modern version in the second photo. I'd love a double cab version and set up a hydraulic ramp and winch system to pull my acty up onto it so I can go to shows in some kind of comfort and sleep in the rear part of the cab.
Not sure if I posted it in my build thread or just on instagram.
I did price them up and not any more expensive to buy or run than many modern cars to be honest.
I regularly - regular outside of Covid lockdowns at least - see an isuzu truck of similar shape - it might even be the same truck on a rebadge for different manufacturer type thing - but I always double look to the lengths that I'm sure makes the driver paranoid.

I was considering a Cabstar as long ago as the last RR show...so about eleventy-billion years ago. They sneak in at 3500kg so fine on a 'normal' license. There's also the Toyota Dyna and Mitsubishi Canter that all do a similar job, although appealing 'retro' (ie. old) ones seem hard to come by...

Hi, I think it's a great idea to take your everyday work horse and turn it into something cool. I mean, just take a look at what fr€$h&m1nt¥ has achieved with his Acty.....it doesn't get much cooler than that. I'm rather partial to a small/medium sized pick-up/tipper. I'm currently restoring a Mk1 VW LT35 2.4 straight 6 diesel tipper truck. The plan is to eventually make it look a bit better with a retro paint job or something, but what I really want to do is change the engine. The engine it has makes a lovely sound as you're cruising a long in it, but you can't beat the sound of a 6 cylinder turbo diesel with straight pipes 😁 My brother has been a landscape gardener for 20 years plus now. He started off with Transits and then moved on to the Isuzu Grafter...which was reliable but expensive to repair when it did go wrong. Not only that, it rusted faster than you could blink. Since then he's had a succession of Nissan Cabstars. He had two of the single wheel models. One was an 2002 and the other 2004. Both of those had major gearbox issues. One of them went through 3 gearboxes. According to the gearbox 'specialist' at the time, he said they were known as the chocolate box because they're so weak. Anyway, despite that they were really good work horses. He now has a twin wheel 2015 model which has the tip forward cab. It's such a nice truck to drive. It scoots along really well considering it's size.....would recommend one to anybody 👍

Have a 'shop I did. I've had one, they drive awful, I mean really really really awful. And they rot so much. And parts are hella expensive.
