Never mind. I had a thought so went out to the garage. Yup, the spare carburetor from the Pontiac fits. That one was worn but still ran the car ok. Makes me wonder how the Pontiac would run using the BBD instead of the WCD...

I decided to put the carb back together as I have a known good one for testing now. I went to align the lower gasket using the dimples created by the channels but I couldn't get things to line up or fit right. I flipped the gasket over and then reversed it. Bingo. RTV Man decided just to fill the gaps- one half of the idle circuit was open to atmosphere... If it's too difficult, ask an adult.

If it's too difficult, ask an adult. Eventually though, adults tire of questions from idiots.

Thanks. Gave it a little tweak, now it'll start up by itself just turning the starter, and it idles.

Given what you started with, that's a damn fine achievement, well done.👍 Would interesting to see how it behaves with a car attached 😎

Given what you started with, that's a damn fine achievement, well done.👍 Would interesting to see how it behaves with a car attached 😎 That'll be a little while. First, no brakes at all. I might be able to adjust the parking brake to work. Second, not sure if I have a good radiator or not. Third, I believe I'm missing the gearshift linkage. Certainly the kickdown linkage is gone. I think I'll rebuild the BBD, then at least all the factory linkages match up. But yeah. We need to see if the car will move under it's own power...

Went rummage in the boxes to make sure I don't have the linkages (eBay expensive) and no. But I do have door locks (didn't realize that), which are soaking in oil to try and get them freed up. I need door handles though. And I have the screen wash pump. Which is probably seized solid. Phil

Screen wash pump. Just that dirt came from the case alone, which isn't very complicated. It was seized solid. Finally managed to free it up, clean the dirt out of it that was completely blocking it. Now it runs again.

Did a little looking around the engine bay and found where it mounts. Makes sense, the battery tray goes to the right of my hand, the screen wash bottle to the left.

Looking at that, it does show just how abysmal car security was in the sixties.
Item 1: Simple rod system you can jemmy in a moment Item 2: No steering lock Item 3: Hood doesn't lock, and takes a single wire to jumper the ignition on, and a screwdriver to start the engine.
The door locks in the Pontiac, from 14 years earlier are significantly more secure. Even the hood locks on that one.
I reckon, parked on the street, you could easily take off with this car within the "Gone in 60 seconds" timeframe.

A box arrived. Headlight switch for the Fury, 2lb of .8 flux core and an automatic hat. Just in time for it to rain.

Ah, the sub-tropics. 3:27pm it starts to rain, big drops. It rained enough to soak everything. As suddenly as it started, it stopped at 3:36pm. Imagine a sauna, with a dirt floor. Thats the smell and feel of going outside. No welding right now.

Zort, crackle. Rain went away long enough to put a bit of weld into the levers. Hopefully that'll do. Phil

Just bought some roll pins, a couple springs and a bolt with a long 1/2" shank. Reason? The door hinges are missing the rollers and the springs that hold them open. I found an old post on a Mopar forum which listed the correct spring off the shelf at Lowe's hardware. I'll cut the bolt down, drill it down the center and fit it in place. Hopefully then the damn doors will hold themselves open instead of closing on me as I'm trying to work in the car. Edit: Also, in addition to the correct locks, I have the correct door lock pins, too. Found those in a half shredded paper bag full of leaves in the workshop. Phil

Cut down, drilled through. That was a lot of work, that's a grade 5 bolt.. Fitted in place, roll pin hammered through. Spring with one end bent through 90° to fit. The door holds itself open now. That'll do. Other side remains but that can be another day's work, it's too hot for much more today. Phil

New ignition stuffs. Fitted the new distributor cap, coil, rotor arm and amplifier module. Not bad. Needs an oil change again to flush the last of the watery gunk out. I've also got a gearshift linkage on order.
