So, the money that i should of spent finishing off my Nissan pulsar GTiR build (you can find this here forum.retro-rides.org/thread/214491/1992-nissan-pulsar-gtir-godzilla ) has been either very cleverly or stupidly (i'll let you be the judge of that) spent on a Skyline. I have been looking at skylines for a while now and seeing as there steadily going up in price i thought that if i want one then i'm going to have to bite the bullet now as they're not getting any cheaper, so i bit the bullet. A nice clean semi stock model which will be a perfect base to build from. I don't really know where i am going in respects of building it yet, i know i want a few more ponies under the bonnet, i know a couple things, i'm not a fan of the front wings and those wheels HAVE to go, definitely would of been good back in the day but many moons have come and gone since those days. I know for now i just want to enjoy it a little bit before i start pulling it to pieces, i have got a couple small bits ordered up for it already and i will be stealing a few bits from the pulsar build Before you say it, i know the build is titled as a GTST and yet this has a GTR badge, that is not my doing, that's how it came, removing that badge will be the first thing i do to it, i'm not a fan of putting badges on a car that don't belong there and give it a false or misrepresentation as to what it actually is. So i did a "bought site unseen off the internet" with this one, i wasn't even in the UK (i'm still not now), car was over 300 miles away so i couldn't really ask any family or friends to go see it, i paid the money and had it transported to my dads and it's going to sit there until i get back from America, i'm hoping it will be before the end of the month, i doubt it but i'm trying to stay hopeful. Obviously updates will be come once i get home and i get the chance to start working on it...

That's a nice and clean one, I'm glad the wheels are being swapped as that's the only thing that lets it down for me.
I think I'd be tempted to go for OEM wheels and remove the GTR badge and just enjoy it and wait for prices to rise further but that's easier said than done once you start changing things.

Source a fan shroud to direct the air better over the engine. If it was mine I'd source R33 gtr wheels, remove the gtr badge cuz it ain't & then do absolutely nothing. It's lush & I love them. I've had 3 R33, 2 stagea & an R34. Miss my 1st R33 gtst the most.

I'm looking into a electronically controlled fan/shroud combo, probably look into it a little deeper once i get home, the price of original parts are a joke, its cheaper to upgrade then it is to replace stock parts, and those wheels, yes, i would love a set, but as i said, price of parts, the few sets that are available are 3k+..... I dunno if i like them that much.....

Nissan spent millions designing an airflow system then people throw it in the bin for electric fans & then wonder why cylinder 6 gets Ringland. I'd keep it standard. Just saying. 🙂

Could try the Driftworks forum, plenty of R33 wheels used to be kicking about on there as they fit on everything....

There's a set on JDM Distro (Based in Ireland) for 999 Euros (plus 60 euros P&P) Not sure if these ever sold ... www.driftworks.com/forum/threads/r33-gtr-wheels-and-tyres-for-swap.281342/

So then, one has returned home, after a quick look around it last night it seemed all there, however, the fresh mot with no advisories may of been a "in the post" job, definitely won't pass mot with a few things I've picked up on, nothing major, but annoying. First thing I did after starting the engine was removing the GTR badge from the grill, I'm going to call that "unmodifying" the car, it doesn't belong there so it had to go. Next up I removed all the standard coil set up and fitted all the new bits I had for the audi R8 coil conversion, had to reroute a couple pipes and cut a mounting point for said hoses off the intake and appart from that it was relatively drama free. Next I removed the incredibly tacky looking carbon fiber vinyl wrap on the center consol, there was what I belive to be a spilt bottle of vape juice in the ashtray so gave it a good clean out, clearly the wrap had been added to cover the crack in the plastic and the missing cigarette lighter socket, had new gaters for the handbrake and gear lever so slapped them on to, there is a new gear knob in the post, now looking for a less 2000 sex spec handbrake lever cover. And like it or not, I put a different steering wheel on it. Few other small bits coming in the post, will updates as they come, just wanna enjoy it for a while now ✌🏻

Day 2 of ownership and we have a idle of 2000 RPM or a fluctuation of 1000 to 1750 RPM. After a quick glance over I found if I squeezed the recirc vacuum or outlet the engine calmed down, checked the operation of the valve, did a vacuum test and all was good, I found 2 completely split vacuum lines elsewhere and also lots of crusty lines, off to the local auto parts store (millautos) and the lad behind the counter didn't even know what vacuum hose was, I didnt have much hope and there stock level was sh*t, had to make a run to halfords as well to get well and truly ripped off. Plenty perished hoses so I replaced 90% of them Changing them made a bit of difference but didn't fix it, I adjusted the IACV, the TPS and the butterfly stop screw and nothing changed, removed and cleaned the IACV, set the butterfly and TPS back to something how they should be like and fired her up, she didn't tick over so I knew I had fixed it, just at 9:30pm I don't think the neighbours would enjoy it to much so I will sort that all up tomorrow in the day time. After looking at it in the dark I realised that only 1 out of 4 side lights worked on the rear and both indicators, however the indicators where very dull and flashing like a 90's disco biscuit fueled discotech light, oddly they flash at a normal pace when the hazard switch is turned on, so armed with some new bulbs I set to work. Finally all the side lights working Brake lights working (inner lights have been wired into be fog lights, although they don't work) Reverse lights working And some indicators bright enough you can actually see them in the day time, still need to find out why they flash fast on the stick and not on the hazard switch The number plate bulbs holders where shot, voltage at the connector so I dug out the number plate lamps for the pulsar gtir project and they where the same physical dimensions, just cut and swap the plugs over. Old New Ran out of time to fit them so that'll be a tomorrow job. Also got working on the wiring for the stereo, Jesus that is a mess... I managed to find the power and the ground, I had bought a proper ISO plug to crimp on to make it neat and "proper". Tomorrow I will continue.

Indicators could have LED bulbs in .
My Scirocco had normal front & LED rear bulbs fitted , did exactly the same as yours , ok on hazard but fast when just indicating .

So I have managed to get a kinda normal tick over, just need to rip out the ECU and see if the idle adjustment screw is turned up a little, if not then I'm either going to have to deal with a 1000rpm tick over or dive in deeper, either way it's not 2000rpm so which ever way you look at it it's a win. As there was no stereo I set to my clio and pulled everything I had put in it 6 months ago out and started to install it on the skyline, the last set of door speakers had been fitted in a good manner, just the MDF had soaked up some water and split out all over the place, I stripped the doors back and started again adding all new audio equipment and new sound deadening. FYI, I didnt butcher the door cards to fit the tweeters, they already had tweeters there so I just fitted my new ones. Also wired up the number plate lights just to check if they were working in there new configuration and yep, all good. Hopefully before it's dark I can have all the audio equipment in and working, tools tidied up and go for a cruise 🚗💨

I believe the hicas system is trying to kill me, the rear end does as it pleases so I decided before I wrap it round a tree I should get rid of it, went online and ordered up a driftworks delete kit, nice bit of kit, super easy to install. I did have to strip out the rear hubs to push the track rod end out to make way for the new bushes Then a quick 4 wheel alignment and we are away, both shock absorbers on the drivers side are shot, looking into options to replace

Changed the plugs last weekend, it had a slight misfire when I got it and over a short period of time it got a lot worse, the gap difference in the plugs has helped, it still feels like it is slightly hesitant so some further investigation will be required. In the process I found a leaking cam cover gasket and that most of the rubber grommets surrounding the cam cover screws had perished away, belts weren't looking too happy either so ordered up a set of them online, now its all arrived I had best fit it I guess..

Whilst it was up on the ramp getting a 4 wheel alignment I was happy to report that it looked structurally sound. Floor looks to be solid and the usual places of rust found on theses has been welded already, fingers crossed it is good for a few more MOT's, that or I can get the bent as a nine Bob note MOT this came with. This exhaust needs to be changed, its way overkill and drones like a mother f**ker, the boots been dynomated yet still it feels like it has been routed via your head. Think I may pull it out/off and start again in the next coming few months, noise from an exhaust is great but I'm not 17 anymore, a good sound yes, a million DB's no.... Another thing on my "remove and replace" list is this front bumper, it is too low for cornish roads, that and its made of the one thing I hate, fiberglass.... the oversized front wings will be going as well, all to be replaced with stock items for a factory(ish) look. Changed out the sloppy fitting, chavy looking early 2000's sex spec gear knob for a nice new nismo one (sorry pulsar gtir, this was meant for you but your not road going yet so).

Stopped for lunch on the side of the road few days back, beautiful view to look at, the background view wasn't too bad either, man I love Cornwall. I forgot to mention this, whilst I was taking the back wheels off to fit the hicas delete kit I noticed the car was missing something.... I hope this isnt a reoccurring theme...

Only just realised after you were talking about that gear knob that it is you building baby godzilla as well. You do have all the best toys.
Just as a side note. I know you say its impractical but that front bumper does look amazing on it.
