Whilst browsing facebook market place, I came across an ad for an old bench drill stand. Now with myself being a bit of a sucker for old broken things, and the fact it was only a fiver, I duly bought it to restore. It was totally seized and rusty and in general 'bad nick', but for only a fiver it would be ok to while away an afternoon whilst fixing it up.
Here it is 'as bought' ...
And after stripping down and filling the baseplate ( there was some corrosion and pitting )...
And finally some paint...
Happy days now to search for a drill to fit it, Luckily, the very next week I was at an autojumble and came across a nearly identical bench drill stand that had the drill attached. I asked the stall holder if he would sell the drill separately and he said that i could have the lot for two quid!
So here's bench drill number two, ( the silver thing in the picture is something he made me take with it saying it was part of it but it's not, i guess he wanted to clear some junk and I looked like a likely candidate)...
The drill itself is a Black and Decker, all it needed was a clean and a new cable and it works a treat.
So there you go, two bench drill stands and one drill. I kinda wish I'd left the first one orange as they would match, but I didn't know I was getting a second press.
But, I hear you say, the title says three...
Well, I thought I'd better look for another drill for the first stand... and looking through the wares at a local second hand place near me I came across yet another bench drill stand. This one was actually a black and decker, in great nick, and came with an attachment for using the drill as a bench grinder or polisher. All for seven quid in total.
Great stuff, I now have a complete and working Black and Decker bench drill.
But now I need two more drills for the other stands....well three more drills if you count the bench grinder...
