This car has been a PITA for some time...

so far I have done the clutch, exhaust (front to back), brakes all round, much suspension and other misc accoutrement. The father in law didnt help much when, in assisting with the clutch change he failed to tighten the rear engine mount bolt to the correct torque, and it went walkies and my wife didnt notice for a fortnight... anyway, I digress. The number plate ends in FYC, and my name is Chris... I think its telling me something.
Anyway, wilst driving home today the radio started to go off, then on then off, then the wipers got slow, then the window wouldnt go up, then it died. I assumed the alternator (still not ruled out, as only just really got the glasted ting back home). Upon delivery ome, no electrical life at all, as there wasnt at breakdown. Not even enough for the hazard waring lights, which with a 1yo in the car on a winding road in Somerset wsnt fun.
Ayway, upon giveing the battery a quick charge, its measuring 12,2 volts, and was enough to turn it ovr. However its in resricted power mode, will therefore only rev upto 2k, the revs themselves are wavering wildily, and is says engine systyms fault.
before I set it on fire, anybody got any thoughts?
