Hi all, I am sure most of us have seen these on ebay and amazon, usually between £35 and £80 for a set, I am wondering if anybody has any real world experience with them and would like to share their experience/ thoughts? I tend to see them on landy's and jeep's on Instagram, but I'd really like to know if they are an actual upgrade or if they are more for the styling? Or do they just blind everybody else on the road... Will they pass an MOT? They have DOT SAE stamped on them, but, does that actually mean anything? Or is it the Chinese manufacturers telling porky pies? I have bought a little Suzuki SJ413 as a summer toy and I do like the look of these for it: As you can see, there are many other styles available: They may not be to everybody's taste, but I do think it may be car dependant.

‘Will they pass an MOT’ is a very vague question unfortunately as every different style of light may and will produce a different beam pattern, and that’s what you need to be looking at. Sadly there is very little way of knowing which ones specifically are ‘any good’ without a recommendation of type/design.

We've had a few Defenders in at work with LED headlights in them. Seems to be very hit and miss as to which ones have a suitable pattern tho Most seem to be just a blob, and not even a flat line for dipped beam

These were the problems that I was thinking, I don't fancy blinding everyone else on the road if the beam pattern is all over the place. I may hold out until I can see them in person and talk to someone that uses a set on their ride.
What is ruling now in terms of washers? Wasn't it a case of if you had Xenon/HID/LED lights that you should also have automatic washers fitted? Or am I imagining that...

They won't pass an MOT if the tester is applying the rules correctly, and as above the ones I've seen have an appalling beam pattern.

Rules changed to allow LED retrofit units as long as the pattern is acceptable LED lamps have always been allowed. Its fitting LED replacements in units where there was a halogen bulb that was an issue. And even that has changed to allowable on stuff before 1986
