Apparently it is trailerable but I shall just leave it on the Lancaster Canal. It's not the aluminium that makes it portable although it is lighter than steel it's the ballast. A steel Narrowboat has concrete or bricks or similar in the bilge to weigh it down. The Sea Otters use a clever self filling water ballast. Basically it has a tank with baffles that lets in enough water to weigh it down and add stability. When you lift it out the water drains so the boat is light. It's full of clever innovations. My last boat was cooled by sucking water up out the canal and passing it through a heat exchanger and spitting it out the back. This is called a raw water system. This is fine but problems with weed can clog the system and cause overheating. This boat has something called keel cooling which is sealed but uses surface area of the hull against the cool water of the canal.in effect it can't overheat or get clogged.
Having a long weekend this weekend so looking forward to sailing it๐๐๐๐

River life is just better, isn't it? Narrowboats are firmly on my 'one day' list... Just struggling to find a way to incorporate a garage...
I would still watch the aluminium though, you don't 'need' to black it and it won't rust, but galvanic corrosion is still an issue, the ally of your boat will attempt to float off and stick to other people's steel boats! This is exacerbated if in salt water (where small boats can have their hulls holed within a few years if uncared for) or even in a marina as stray electrical currents from unusually earthed boats (including your own) can and will cause weird corrosion. Whap it out every once in a while and check the ol' zinc anodes are still good. Then you're just eating zinc, not hull!

Thanks for the advice. It doesn't have anodes it has something called a galvanic isolater. Supposed to protect it from stray current from boats with shore power. This has shore power but I don't connect it up and just use 12v stuff. I'm moored alone away from other boats so might be ok .

So it's just powered by a 700cc diesel for propulsion? Or is that the water heater that's a 700cc diesel? It'll take a while with that to heat the canal to swimmable temperature!.... I like it anyway.

The little diesel is amazing it does an hour per half a litre at 1500 rpm. Wish my Volvo did ๐

Love the Sea Otters, fantastic little boats, hugely clever fitouts from factory too. I'm a long term forum lurker who also happens to have lived aboard for 6 years, done 2 complete refits of narrowboats and i'm currently doing a fairly big welding project on my next boat... I won't hijack this thread (enough interest to start another one?) but any questions please ask, i've been there and done it

Well I had a Freeman 23 that I likened to a MK2 jaguar with its lovely veneers. As for the sea otter, hmm it's a small for a Narra' so maybe one them small cars with delusions of grandeur like an Allegro vanden plas ha ha ๐

Had some cushion pads made to make cruising more comfortable Had to have the side a bit slimmer than the back so the canopy bars can fold. Hereโs a shot from Garstang last night.
