Hi, I've replaced a starter motor in my lupo and I need some help with reconnecting the wires to it please.
The engine and engine loom are from a 1.8t and I didn't take a picture of the starter I removed so I'm assuming the two cables I'm looking at should be connected back to the starter.
I think one cable is power and the other is earth. One thing I did so was to connect both cables to the threaded terminal, all that did was melt the cable I think is the earth.
I'll try and post a pic bow.

Starters earth through the body so there is no separate earth, typically they are wired either inline between alternator and battery positive or have a separate cable to the battery positive

As a boost pipe popped off whilst on the m6 today, I got a hard shoulder visit from the AA. The lovely AA man donated me a spare earth strap as well as refitting my boost pipe.
