My little jet has had a prefacelift front end fitted so no longer has the front corner clear indicators. Do I need to add side indicators to the door area or are they not needed? Currently have indicators stuck under the mirrors & I hate the look.

Mot manual is your friend . www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehiclesVehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must be fitted with an amber side repeater indicator on each side. The side repeater can be part of the front direction indicator if it has one of the following: a wraparound lens marked either with an ‘E’ mark in a circle or an ‘e’ mark in a rectangle with a number 5 above it an amber light coming through the front lens when viewed from 1m to the side of the rear bumper

You can be a bit naughty on this, and have an additional wire set for side repeaters and plug them in for the mot and stick them to the doors with strong magnets. Once a year lights. 😉

The critical point here is the date of introduction of the side repeater legislation, in this case, 1st April 1986. The vehicle in question is clearly bearing a registration number that dates it between August 1st 1980 and July 31st 1981. Even if it's a grey import or some such, this will be an age related plate.
So it doesn't NEED side repeaters to be legal!
Question answered?

Personally. I would just leave as is, if a tester gets a bit out of his pram fit some small ones under the mirrors, normally its not in their remit to give you grief, generally, if its not fitted they don't notice...... if its there it has to work.

My guy is very helpful but I don't want to take the Mickey, I'll have a chat with him & test the waters.

Maybe use a Mk2 golf smoked front indicator assembly mounted below the door in line with the front spoiler? Invisible, cheap if damaged, can be permanently installed and won’t spoil the look/make the spoiler look more integrated?

Many years ago I had a 306 s16 , had the in wing side repeaters welded and filled etc ( along with the door locks) first MOT it was set to fail as the examiner jumped to the conclusion that they were required , but as stated above I had the correct e marking on the headlamps so after a brief conversation and a quick check of his very big MOT book the car came away with a clean ticket

(Without having one to look at Vs the test wording I can’t be sure 🤣) But I don’t disagree with having a go and seeing how it fairs without come test time

It just means they are approved for being lights for the EU market. Having the E mark just proves they aren’t some weird lashup. If you read it it has to be a wraparound lens with An E approval stamp. The 306 lamps aren’t wraparound. But moot, as you got your MOT

Not sure why you'd want to delete something that has the potential to save your life. With the amount of idiots "driving" around nowadays I would have thought that clear and visible indicators should be considered essential items.

Buuut, the idiots where I live won't see indicators unless you fit them to their bloody phone screen! Lost track of the numbers of people swiping and texting while driving
