RC at RRW? More (small) things to see

Have you been at the already action-packed Retro Rides Weekender and thought to yourself you'd love something to be moving during midday but the track action is paused for lunch? Then this may be the answer!

This year HoTWire has got us a space to demonstrate some of the more oddball R/C stuff that's around, from markbognor's Kei truck and van builds with a twist and mini 4X4 challenge course to some heavy hauler action from yours truly and whatever else we find in between.



We plan on displaying both days for a few hours at lunchtime downstairs in the race control building so pop on by and see what we have been keeping ourselves busy with when the garage is too cold to work on real cars.

Thanks to everyone that popped in over the weekend, and a huge thanks to markbognor for the sheer amount of quality WPL builds he brought along. Here's a few pictures. Look out for us next year, we are going to make this even batter for 2024!

They are all based on Kamtec or Mardave chassis, theres a little cottage industry built around machining the alloy block mounting hardware and the alloy sheet bodies. The ABS banger is a Kamtec body. The other bumpers car is a '1300 stock car'. Other formulas that run at the same sort of clubs are 2l Saloon Stox and Hot Rods.

I've raced 1/12 oval on and off for years but have always preferred the 'non' contact formula.

I should have put some wheels on the Hot Rod and taken that along as well!

Just wanted to say that the display was awesome, and hopefully next year you'll get a bigger area - maybe even a track layout.
There were a lot of people squeezing down that narrow hallway to get a glimpse of what was going on.

Plans will be put into action sooner for the 2024 display so we can get more in and more people can see. I think we did well as the location is a little tucked away and was worried there wouldn’t be a good footfall but plenty came through the doors to see and also display so next year will be better again!

There is another room in there that we can also use as a track area.

With a bit more planning on our part I reckon we can really make this area fly next year. Hell there is even some outside space for some offroad RC stuff too.

I remember years ago at one of the many classic car shows at the 3 counties in Malvern, they used to have a HUGE RC display with loads of different types of RC happening; offroad, drifting, circuit racing etc all happening in one huge space and the drivers up on a raised platform.
