Ive rebuilt a 1.8 non vvt rover k series. i just fitted the oil pump , put a little cam lube on it when i fitted it. Now ive come to start the car, ive turned it over for about 1 min all in all in little blasts, and its not getting oil pressure. The light isnt going out.
What do i do now? i don't want to keep winding it over as i don't want to do any damage.
thanks

I just started my VVC complete rebuild - as I did with my Dodge V8 - they rattle initially as the followers pump up, but settle down quick.
I'm not a fan of attempting to build oil pressure on a starter motor - it doesn't spin fast enough, quick enough, so you drag poorly lubricated components past each other for longer than if you simply start it.

I’ve had issues on oil changes like this when the oil pump is worn. I overcame the issue without dismantling by overfilling the oil above the oil pump and cranking until it picked up, then drained back to the correct level.

Many engines won't turn over fast enough to make pressure/turn the oil light off. It's the reason I use the build lubricants I do to build engines, we just fire them straight up and if there is a oil pressure problem they'll run for a minute or more without damaging anything.
I'd just try and start it. If the light doesn't go out straight away switch it off.

ok so wound it over for a min connected to my road car and the light didnt go off.
put the plugs in and started it, the light went off then came back on, then went off, then came back on again.
I took the oil cap off, and i could see oil drops being flicked up into the rocker cover.
I think maybe ive put a temp sensor in the pressure sensor hole when ive put it back together. The tappets where really loud at first and now not quiet but defo some have oil in them.
Need to get another sensor i think as i don't know if there is a problem or if i have the wrong one in it.

Oil pressure warning sensors don't tell you enough, and come on at far too low a pressure. Check the actual pressure with a gauge before you go any further.

well i dropped the oil and filter, oil had little bits in it but i recon thats normal as i washed the engine myself, i didnt take it to have it done properly.
I filtered the oil and put it back in, then changed the filter and started it. It was instantly quiet and oil light was out.
the filter was the one that was on the engine when i got it, my plan was to run it for 5 mins and change the filter. Now, i cut it apart, it looked ok, but then ui blew threw the element it inflated then let air threw. When i sucked it took a little force to get air threw. So i think the filter was the problem.
sounds really good now.
