Hi, My name is Wayne and I'm new to the forum. I recently bought a 1987 Renault 9 1.4 GTL. The Fan belt that's on the Renault 9 is looking a bit fraid so I bought one off of eBay. The seller assured me it would fit, but it's about two inches too short. I then went online to Halfords and typed in my reg number, the site said they had them in stock so I bought one again, the one they sent was too inches too short. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If you can still read them, the old belt will have a length printed on it. Otherwise, measure the old belt circumference and order a few from a factors a few sizes up and down from what it measures up as and find the best fit, and return the rest. Then make a note of what you used for future reference.

Asking the obvious, so apologies, but you have backed off the alternator fully on its tension bracket?
Had a R11 GTL many years ago - check the the plastic bleed screws in the high points of the coolant hoses - back in 1989 one of mine failed and escaped . . .

Hi and Thanks for the reply, the original belt is in such a bad condition there is no writing of any kind on it. I ended up just measuring the belt with a tape measure (1200mm in lenght) and ordered one of that size (10mm wide X 1200mm long) £7.33 + free postage. Hopefully I'll have the belt by the weekend.

Hi and Thanks for the reply. I did back off the alternator on it's bracket as fully as possible. I compared the old, original belt to the new one(s) bothe new belts are roughly 62 mm shorter than the original so I ended up just measuring the original belt with a tape measure (1200mm in lenght) and ordered one of that size (10mm wide X 1200mm long) £7.33 + free postage. Hopefully I'll have the belt by the weekend. I did notice the plastic bleed screw on the top hose. looked OK, but I'll check them just to be on the safe side.
