“Shed find” Rover Mini 1000 City E Project
1990 (G Plate)
Red with Grey interior
84,000 miles
It's been off the road and dry stored since 2014. It was put back on the road in 2012 so was used for around 18 months. Prior to this no MOT history is available so it was off the road since at least 2006. I have an old MOT that expired in July 2000 and a receipt for a trade sale in June 2000 so it’s likely it was off the road from then.
Car is complete, runs, and drives, stops and changes direction.
It’s a 33 year old Mini project, so there is some rust to attend to although I’ve seen much, much worse. From what I can see, for an MOT it would need at least the following welding: A small hole to the floor in the driver’s side rear corner under the companion box, a couple of areas at the bottom of the driver’s side A post where it meets the inner sill and inner wheel arch, a small area in the driver’s side foot well under the pedals and a small hole on the inner wing by the passenger’s side front shock absorber bracket.
Clearly there’s going to be more to do to make a proper job, the rear most inner sills in the companion boxes are holed so need attention, the heel boards inside the companion boxes are starting to look a bit manky too. The passenger’s side foot well looks to have been dented slightly from underneath and looks a little rough but seems solid.
Boot floor looks solid however the rear subframe has been off and welded so I’d be surprised if there hasn’t been any welding to the mounting areas in the floor.
On top the driver’s side scuttle has some small holes, the passenger’s side shows a little rust but no holes as yet. The roof gutters and areas around the rear and side windows are nice and solid.
Both doors are good but have the usual stress cracks where the frame meets the skin at the front. Bonnet is shot (better replacement included in sale). Boot lid has rust along bottom edge.
Paint is not very good and there are a few shallow dents from storage and one in the passenger’s side of the front panel by the indicator.
Some good news, It looks like it’s had sills (proper ones, not oversills), A panels and a passenger’s side front wing in the past. There is a lack of MOT patching most uncommon for a classic Mini project. It’s had some poor quality paint, however there isn’t layers of it.
As mentioned earlier, rear subframe has been removed, welded and painted at some point and is still solid, front looks sound and should be fine to go again.
Mechanically it seems ok, engine starts easily and runs fine, I’ve driven it up and down the drive so clutch, first and reverse gears are ok. Brakes work, so does steering. Rear suspension looks to have been rebuilt when the subframe was off, front probably needs doing. Mechanically it will need at least a thorough recommissioning. Engine has a nice alloy rocker cover.
Interior is all there although dirty and a little scruffy.
Spares to come with car include: Set of 12 x 5” Ultralite wheels, Pair of stainless steel bumpers, opening side windows, MG Metro style alloy rocker cover, passengers front wing, boot floor repair sections, jacking point repair sections, water pump, speedo cable, starter motor, cylinder head and stainless steel wiper arms.
All in all, it’s actually pretty solid and would make a really worthwhile pretty straight forward project. We’re only selling as I want something that I can jump in and use. Viewing encouraged, located 15 miles south of Norwich.
Asking £2600 with all the spares and the ultralite wheels, but open to sensible offers without.
