On my triumph I'm using a Simpson stainless exhaust manifold, its a 4 piece manifold with 3 slip joints held together with the correct type springs and tags, driving about its fine, on over-run and in gear the exhaust is Popping and Fa-ting, so, I'm guessing the slip joints are letting air into the exhaust, this would not normally bother me too much, but I'm converting over to injection soon, and I need to mount a Lambda sensor, Question, slip joints letting by? whats the cure, as I see it the slip joints are expansion joints to allow the exhaust to move and not crack as its very thin tubing, are they sealable? if so with what? if it only appears to be leaking on over-run, does it actually matter?

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

Came here to say the same. Colour not important, but make sure it is stuff that can handle higher temps. Especially for the manifold section 🥵 And also, let it go off fully before starting the engine if it is used upstream of a lambda sensor. The silicone can upset lambda sensors if it hasn't fully cured

The silicone can upset lambda sensors if it hasn't fully cured Colour not important is partly true: it's the pigment that causes problems with heat. So the solution is to use silicone with no pigment. So you just buy clear silicone. There's no need for anything fancy or expensive. You can prove this for yourself by putting a blob of different colour silicones on the exhaust manifold - coloured ones soon burn off, but the clear will be there for ages. Letting it go off properly before starting the engine is a good idea.

Don't use silicone if you are fitting an oxygen sendor, even the tiniest trace damages them.

Don't use silicone if you are fitting an oxygen sendor, even the tiniest trace damages them. That's odd, because the manufacturer's instructions for the last three cats I fitted specified silicone as the sealant.

Cook off the silicone before you put the sensor in maybe?
Popping and farting doesn't nessicarly mean there's a problem tho. It's unburnt charge finding its way through into the exhaust. Common on overrun.
