There was a thread on here a while ago, but I cant find it, lowering a P4 was discussed at length. Not sure if it was in a general thread or a readers rides thread. General consensus was it's quite hard to go more than a slight drop. glenanderson might point you in the right direction?

They are really hard to lower properly. The body is already quite heavily channeled over the chassis, and there’s a lot of significant ironmongery pretty close to the ground. The huge front arch gap is probably best attacked by dropping the arch itself in the wing, rather than lowering the front. I did briefly try shorter springs on my P4, but the bump steer was fairly bad, and I quickly tired of the bottoms of the doors hitting the kerb and not being able to open them properly.
Nothing is impossible, obviously, if it’s what you really want to do, but it’ll be a major challenge. I know of several people that have set to with great gusto, but none of them actually ever finished as far as I am aware.
As for engine swaps, well anything lazy and torquey would suit the general feel of these cars. And an auto box. The stock gearbox doesn’t like being rushed, and most modern manual gearboxes will put the lever in completely the wrong place.
