gave the 59 Coupe a wipe over this morning Oh man, my dream motors right there; A Massey 135 and a Ford with a loader! Joking aside there was a manky white '59 on ebay a while back. I ached for it, I still do. Mrs Generallee said it looked ridiculous, but that is sort of the point? ha ha, the farm where i keep my cars has many old tractors in various states of disrepair , i could start a thread just on those My 59 Coupe is a pretty nice one, i paid up for it because an average one takes a fair few quid to make nice the price of Caddy parts, paint , chrome etc, but having said that i've had scruffy ones in the past and they are still super cool and get more attention than anything else ive owned or driven. I think this is the 7th 59 Coupe ive had, two of them i owned 3 times each, i'm a bit of a Cadillac nut. This is my other ridiculous coupe, 58 Oldsmobile Ninetly Eight Two Door Hardtop

How to out chrome Cadillac! Though I suppose more could yet be added behind the rear wheels; for paint protection. The parts count upon those grilles alone shows they were from another planet.

This is my other ridiculous coupe, 58 Oldsmobile Ninetly Eight Two Door Hardtop The utter outlandish nature of these 50s cars is what drew me into American steel... sure the art deco 30s models are delightful, 40s a little more restraint but then the 50s, post war and a vision for the jet age is a something else. To say it's form over function isn't quite right as these things are incredibly well equipped compared to what we had in the UK at the time.

These models were pretty upmarket, I guess the 4 doors less so, the Chevys and Fords less so again. I'd be interested to see the comparative price point, or who was buying them.
1959 here you could buy the new Mk2 Zephyr, Zodiac, Consul or 100e but would aspire to a Mk2 Jag, or if a sensible bank manager maybe a nice Rover P4.
The thing about the US stuff is they are still huge, but a young chap about town here might buy a Healey or MG.
I'm going off topic and comparing apples to pears, but America in the 50s into the 60s looked so optimistic. Bacon for breakfast, hamburgers for lunch and steak for tea, a huge land yacht on the drive and nothing to hold you back (Apart from those pesky communists.)

i quite like the front and rear of those, prefer the 2 door hardtop to the two door sedan The 60/61 Mopar vehicles definitely stir opinions, the styling for the finned Exner designs falling away and some models definitely look "awkward".. but I do like the 61 Hardtop😎

Desoto is a marque that I'm increasingly drawn to.. Not sure the fender skirts on the business Coupe work for me though.
