I wish you luck with this. I got that 'more info required' letter back in January and replied immediately by email. Heard nothing in Feb so replied again by post. Heard nothing in March so tried to call but could not get through to anyone. Replied by email again (emails get a 'we have received your query' reply) but heard nothing. Finally got to speak to someone at the end of April who confirmed receipt of all my communication and said it had gone to the 'high security' department who were looking at it. Here we are nearly 6 months in and still no response. Not holding out much hope for a successful application but a rejection would at least allow me to move on. I assume it's sitting on someone's kitchen table while they catch up with Loose Women or Homes Under the Hammer.

Its from a HPI look up of sorts Theres obviously a transcription error with them recording the U as a Y. I'm not sure exactly why they have recorded data from 2 different plates though as it makes no sense, however sending photos of both the plates along with a covering letter pointing out they have recorded a letter incorrectly should suffice. If you send me a message once you have the number written down and I'll clear it off the thread so it's not out there in the clear in case anybody searches it. BIB, Back in the 80s a friend bought an unregistered tractor off a local farm and decided to register it for the road. They wanted the chassis number from it and he couldn't find it so he went round and noted all the numbers he could find, casting numbers included, and assembled them into 'chassis' number of sorts. It all got processed and registered. DVLA were a bit more lax back them, certainly more than today, but in the intervening years after lots of abuses of the system they decided to crack down and here we are today. Although that doesn't help it may explain the circumstances in this situation. I'm not sure where to go from here but maybe a phone call might help. Getting a name or ref No. that you could follow up with in a letter. generallee You need to edit and clear the full number from dodgerover's quote in your post. Colin

So, I had a fortnight working on the house where the dumper lives, came home and.... nothing. Went on holiday, came home... nothing. Came in from work last week, an envelope! ...it was a speeding ticket from our holiday. Then on Wednesday a brown envelope from Swansea! Was it a V5? ....no. It was a letter to tell me they are going to issue a V5! Hooray! Thank you all so, so much for all your help with this. In the great scheme of things, it wouldn't matter if it never saw the road, but it's nice that I will be able to if I want or need to. I will believe it properly when i have the log book in my hot little hand, but things are looking good. Thanks all again. RR is a great place. Have a picture from when I was doing a spot of gardening.

I thought I would tie up the last loose end to this... I have a V5! It came back with just the chassis number from the plate on the back, correctly transcribed.
Thanks again everybody. 🙂

hooray! I once had a hilarious experience with DVLA when i tried to reg an imported Datsun truck, they said i had to supply a dating letter from a specialist. they attached a list of specialists from whom they would accept a letter . One of them was me. So I wrote a letter on behalf of me , dating my truck, and sent it with a covering letter.
This they accepted , and I got my v5.
