Just having a think of a random possible project idea Basically a chassis built with the mgtf subframes, And a old beetle shell dropped over it Would sort of make a mid (ish) engined beetle But instead of the k-series, a Honda engine Anyone think this type of subframe/engine would fit in the space where the rear wheels need to go? There’s a pic here of what someone had made for a classic mini……with wider arches obviously,

Pie Valley Buggies were doing a chassis to allow MGTF running gear to fit under any body designed for a Beetle floorpan - aimed at kitcars. Some info here: www.pievalleybuggies.co.uk/chassis.htmlNo idea if they sold many though

I've always had a dream of building a mid engined beetle. That chassis looks really good, I wonder how easy it would be to get one through SVA.

So SVA has been superseded by IVA but the point still stands, if you build the car with the rulebook in mind from day one then it's entirely possible. I'm sure stuff like glass and lights with the correct E marks should be available for a Beetle and all the awkward bits are likely to be under the bodywork. The hassles usually come when people build a car under the old "don't ask don't tell" principles and then have to alter a finished car after they've been caught out.

Apologies, I always get IVA and SVA mixed up, in my mind they are basically the same thing though (happy to be corrected).
Original glass and lights etc shouldn't be an issue, I was more thinking along the lines of a metal dashboard with switches sticking out of it; the protruding interior door handles and window winders, and the basically metal steering wheel.

AFAIR things get easier if you are buying a chassis from a manufacturer. Aslo single donor kit makes life easier.

In what respect? You can register it on the new chassis? I really fancy doing something like this once I've finished my current project.
