Those of you in the (East) Midlands will doubtless have been to Albert Looms at some point, the quintisential old scrap yard. I think it was mentioned on here that the yard is closing. Saturday was its last day trading (I think the tyre place on site is still open until later this week). Now thats it. Done. Bye bye.
So I went along on the last day, the photos are carefully taken so you can't see how busy it was (busy!) - I grabbed what I could off a RAV4 they have there and when I went to pay I was waved off with a "have a nice day sir"
Its a shame we lost it, I don't know what will become of the site, I would love to go live there! Its contaminated land but I am not sure that would stop a housing developer, but probably some form of distribution centre is more likely with the positioning.
