Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Well I finally feel like I've got some head space again, which has got me really contemplating how to improve just about everything RR is involved with. Shows are already in hand, Club RR is running a couple of weeks behind where I want it, so I've got some work to do on that and the forum is about three months out on updates, lots of work to do there. Updated theme will be out at the end of this month (nothing radical, just improvements I've been sitting on for a while). Giving some consideration to more Youtube content, or maybe an events focused Podcast, trying not to over commit though. One thing that is playing on my mind at the moment is the 20th Birthday Camp Out... I've had a lot of enthusiasm for the idea, but so far zero actual camping purchased. It is an event that will work with ten or a hundred people, so I'm not too worried, just a little bit ... but it is still a worry. I don't know if I've not communicated it well, or if people are waiting to the last minute, or if there are questions that haven't been asked, or if it just isn't a good idea haha. Anyway, hows things with you? Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/227167/chat-thread-summer-wc-03

That is awesome news. I recognise at least a couple more RR folk in the victory picture 😀

Not entirely retro but on the VWDRC side of things Abi managed to qualify second in VW Pro and was a losing semi-finalist in our Golf R, which was passable I guess, but Tom definitely upheld the honour of our collective and showed the old 'uns how it's done....

Progressing with welding. As usual it was in slightly worse condition than expected, but not really any more work. Currently at this point. Subframe strengthener repaired, inner sill made up (just making it look right to me no idea what it's supposed to be like) and the strengthener repaired and refitted. I also managed to get the outer sill trimmed up ready to fit but the weather's been a bit curse word so far this week.

I've been buying parts for the MG of late which is a bit novel for me, starting to feel a bit of enthusiasm for it again, though after getting it up in the air noticed that the underside is a little rougher than I remembered.. 🙃

Managed to sneak another hour in after work, before it inevitably wazzed it down. I decided there must be some sort of bit that joins the strengthening bit to the end cap of the inner sill to tie it altogether so I did a bit of CAD then made it up in metal and welded it in. Got the end cap templated and cut too then did the 2 minute rush putting all the tools and welder away.

Few final bits left to do now, mostly programming changes, add a trailer output harness and a cab curtain, and that’s this one off my workbench. 😮💨

Working on sorting out my late mother's RAV4. Either for sale or handover to my youngun. Insurance looks like the problematic issue there. The car is a cracker though, 2005 model with 32,000 miles on it. For a Toyota of that era, barely run in.
Been working on sorting some stuff on some of mine as well
There's been a run of mysterious electrical faults and the Majestic has just declined to start again, either a stuck starter or siezed engine, ouch, will look into that further soon.
Humber has its own thread, I should update, but theres been some too and fro on that one and it seems to be in order now. More or less.
Sorting a couple of mine out to sell now, need space and cash for other things.
Seems to have been movement on a couple of stalled projects (most of mine ar TBF) so the "Roadtrip" LTD should be back on the road very soon.
I've gotten Marti Reports on a couple of mine, I suspect there are interesting stories there.

Ignoring the lack of power due to a suspected blocked fuel filter, I've had a success getting the T5 inspected and re-registered as a camper today. Not out of the woods yet, mind you. Still need to do a tax declaration before it gets its new plates, then I need to get a fresh APK on it. And a fresh fuel filter in it...

Trying to motivate myself to carry on grinding down welds and other bits and pieces on the project, I've got a bit done this afternoon but not as much as I should have.

Sorted out the valve shims on the Princess yesterday, uses flat tappet shims in buckets, overhead cam. Well... sorted one of them out. You have to dismantle a good bit of the top of the engine just to get to the shims and there's a whole procedure to go through, pushrod engines are far nicer for this sort of adjustment! I'm down to one noisy shim and I've got measurements so I'll order a replacement and hope it's the right size for when I've got the motivation to dig in to the engine again. It might settle down on its own, I'm told they sometimes 'bed in' after a few miles and can be a bit rattly to begin with, we'll see.

Pretty much all efforts this week have centred around removing a brake drum that has potentially been in situ for 52 years and it was critical to not destroy it(replacement being between $350 & $550 with shipping and duty on top) So each day heat cycling, and assorted hub puller and it finally "popped". Shoes look well worn and cylinder needs rebuilding or replacing but that's a job for another day as main focus was to free things up to push round the workshop.

My aim for today was to get all the rear interiors stripped out but I managed to do that and get the first patch made and welded in. Hoping to get this side done in the next couple of weeks, then same again on passenger side (I imagine anyway not checked yet), then that leaves me a couple of months for fun stuff before RRG. This is what I wrote on June the 2nd. I set myself a very optimistic deadline to get this side done, based on previous experience, but surprisingly (mostly to myself) I've actually achieved it. I think I'm gonna reward myself by having a trial fit of the wheels I've bought for it. I bought some of the paint required yesterday too.
