I know of an ex-Armed police Cosworth 24v one for sale if you're interested! I think because they didn't sell in huge numbers they'll gain classic status quite quickly. I think Ford hoped that it'd grow on people like the "jellymould" Sierra - slated when it first came out but people came round to the idea. Unfortunately for Ford, Vauxhall brought out the relatively good-looking Omega which buried it!

I just can't get used to the front end of it, in other respects they're nice cars, but so's the Vauxhall Omega, and it looks better. That and both are a little modern for me, the latest I'd go for a big saloon is the Volvo 9 series of the early 90s, and in fairness they're built like few other 90s cars,

I hated the Scorpio when it first came out but its now growing on me. My next door neighbour has one and everytime I see it I like it more.

impjimbo-same as me.theres something thats starting to make it appealing. i cant really afford to buy another car,but I'm gonna need something to get to work in when i start getting the merc ready for the rcs. people keep telling me to get a cheap little runabout, but theres an evil voice in my head saying"go on son get the barge, sod economy" and i always listen ;D. also I'm liking wierd looking motors at the minute, hence the 411. ;D

i think thats maybe why i like it. and you can pick them up for under £900 in "my type" of nick. i do like a bit of luxury motor these days.but usually much older. ;D ;D ;D

ive already got one ,an etate too .had it 2 years.i saw the wagon trend take off in the states and thought "il have some of that".chose the 123 over a granada and a volvo. i need to get it sorted for rcs.its gonna have to come off the road for a while

Sounds cool, its something ive been thinking about an old merc as an everday motor since I was parked next to a mint dark blue one in a petrol station a couple of months ago It put my Honda so far in the shade the poor thing got frostbite.
Id like either a w123 or a w115 but i have to wait until my job situation changes.

I'm a big fan of w123s and w115s :)but my favourite has to be the 3.5 v8 w109s .totally out of my price range though. i can highly recomend one as a daily driver .the only time mines come close to letting my down is when it wouldnt start in freezing conditions .sorted that by having wd40 squirted into the carb while it was being turned over ;D. ive used it for work most days since i bought it.

I can vouch for the reliability too - the only thing to have gone wrong on mine after 3 years of ownership was a thermostat. The only other thing that's gone wrong was sitting in the drivers seat (me! )

sounds good to me! I'll be very tempted when I know how far i'll have to travel to my next job.
Ive seen a 1973 280e w115 for sale locally but I think it might be a touch thirsty!

Scorpios are seriously good cars for the money... yeah they look a bit odd (i'm liking them actually but i understand them not being to everyone's taste) but they're cheap as nylon underpants.
there was one round here for £750, 2.9, fabric not leather but otherwise a good spec, ford service history, just an unwanted car.

They weren't to my taste when they first came out, but they've grown on me (I had a Mk3 24v for a few months, prefer those). A bloke at work drives one, and his happens to be the Archbishop of Canterbury's old motor.

The 2.0 in my Merc is thirsty too - I'm kind of glad I'm not running it at the minute, cos in the REALLY cold weather I get 14mpg!! 30 on a run though! The 280 shouldn't be that thirsty as it has fuel injection - keeps the mpg from going into single figures anyway!
