Need some help diagnosing a knocking from the rear of the carlton.
It comes from the right rear corner. All is fine under acceleration, unless the wheel is spinning, it happens both in a straight line and when turning to the right. , then "bang, bang, bang" until the wheel takes traction again.
Initially I thought it was a knackered shocker, I replaced these the other day but the noise still occurs. The anti roll bar links look fine but i guess they could be a bit worn out. Another possibility I suppose is the exhaust banging against somethings but it seems securely mounted and I didn't notice any damage when having apoke around.
Any ideas?
Ta.

What car is this happening on? I had a similar thing on my Imp Coupe and it was worse on lift-off.
Cause was the splines of the driveshaft had worn and was basically acting like a rachet on the hub. Of course if yours is happening on a FWD car (such as the Focus) then it won't be that.

Its the Carlton mate, The Focus is unused at the moment, I'm having too much fun with the six pot and rwd. I hope I can get it sorted out soon, its seriously limiting any drift action Got the new struts on the front today and thats sorted a knocking from the front going over bumps ;D Cheers for you help Al (raceimps), as usual, a great double act in the garage.

Just turn the stereo up a few notches, I've found that cures most knocking noises. ;D

Not sure on the suspension set up on that car but I would have thought that it would probably worn bushes if its doing it mainly when the wheels are spinning. Jack it up and try moving whatever is used for the forward location by levering it with a bar.

I'd say the same: check the suspension bushes.

i have the same sort problem with the dolly, that turned out to be the exhaust hitting the diff. it was really surcure but still happened. i cured that by zip tying some this rubber to the diff. its probally worth a try, its easier then taking halfshafts out. you say the rear right side, is this the side the exhaust crosses the diff? it would probally rule that out if it crosses on the left. is the prop a single piece or in two sections? might also be worth a look at the bearings its two piece.
