So instead of slyly reading Retro Cars whilst sat next to my other half as she watches Eastenders, I have to sit down the other end of the room "on the bloody web again", which is antisocial apparently I know which one I'd rather be doing and it doesn't involve any Queens called Vic I know what BGTMidget7476 is talking about though, I found most of the car mag websites that I've been too quite poor really. The worst I ever saw was 'Revs' magazine website... please don't ask why I went there, as I have got no excuses

As opposed to replacing the paper mag, the website should be used to enhance it - subscribers (or for a nominal small amount, anyone) can get extra content, pics and videos but they still get the main mag through the letterbox/off the shelf.

Spot on Penski,.. Thats what FastFours does in Australia,.. offers same content as magazine + extra photos, videos, longer show reports etc.
Magazines don't want to seem to modernise,..

Have a word with RC, might land yourself a job Speaking of which, I'm off to shower - I have an interview at 11 which, if I get, will double my income. Which means that there will be an E30-shaped object outside my house. *n (hopefully will return later as 'Trainee Technical Author' as opposed to generic support monkey.)

Oh bloody hell, not the website issue again...
There are two main reasons why Retro Cars (and a LOT of other car titles) don't have decent sites, and it's nothing to do with not wanting to put feature content online or being stick-in-the-muds.
Firstly, there aren't enough man hours to maintain a site and put the magazine together. You can have one, but not the other.
Secondly, maintaining a large site costs money which comes out of the promotional/marketing budget. These days, the majority of that money has to be diverted to getting the magazine into as many retailers as possible. In other words, bribing them.
Finally, with forums as good as this, what's the point?
Anyway, have you seen PPC's site recently?

If you have a good enough content management system (like for example the one I've developed for work ) ,.. maintaining the site shouldn't take up too much time/money .. With hosting costs being around £130 a year for a good setup. Finally, with forums as good as this, what's the point? Ahh you have a good point there

If the site is designed correctly the addition of new data is extreamly simple the code never changes and the text has already been written (cough cough), not really saying its cakka but coming from that popint of view i think it should be updated a bit more otherwise whats the point in paying you domian subscription, and thiers i know is higher than 130 cus i did some work for the domain. just think its a waste of such a good idea. Completely agree with the man hours though thats for sure but if you aint going to update it pump the money somewhere else ;D

I say swamp the readers rides feature with cars from here. How cool would it be to have an issue where EVERY readers rides was one of ours!

I say swamp the readers rides feature with cars from here. How cool would it be to have an issue where EVERY readers rides was one of ours! Only thing is if we all done it the magazine would end up with hundreds of pages of readers' rides! Talking of magazines, as long as they don't censor it like last time, one of my rants about purists and/or Practical Classics readers should be appearing in PC any time soon, although as I said last few letters I ever sent them got censored till they had no meaning left in them or else failed to appear in the mag at all, obviously I offend them when I say that I don't give a damn whether my Imp has the original air in its tires from the day it was made and I like Ladas!
