I know RCs has doen a little on this but was wondering has anyone else put on on their car, I currently have the Megasquirt On need sfitting mind but i am sumwaht relctant on fitting as i like the Old manual methods of my engine however she does need to be brought kicking and screaming into the 21 century, BenzBoy did you mention something about one of these kits. Its either sell the Megasquirt and get the Superchips one as shown in the link below Which is eaiser to fit, www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/MGOC_Accessories__Ignition_35.htmlor just fit my rev limiter and keep the Optronic Ignition and thats it

Personally out of the two I would run the Megasquirt or at least wait until the Megasquirt II upgrade board comes out and add that to get a whole slew of other features (including mappable ignition). From what I have heard on the Superchips one if has to be mapped by their people, with MS should something change you can remap yourself (or with the help of a rolling road) and should something drastic go wrong and you lose the set-up in the MS you can re-upload off of you PC/laptop (very useful if that "something drastic" can be fixed by your recovery service, saves a tow home).
But that said I am hoping to run an ignition only "outgrowth" of the MS system with carbs called MegaJolt Lite Junior.
It's up to you really at the end of the day but my choice for injection would lie with the Megasquirt range of systems.

Practical Perfromance Car have been doing a long running feature on home brew management utilising the Megasquirt system and making there own throttle boddies. It deffinately looks achievable. I am hoping to use a megasquirt system on one of my cars in the future if not both. (hell, I might even convert the old VW Camper aswell! ;D )

or just fit my rev limiter and keep the Optronic Ignition and thats it Ohh you're running Luminition's Optronic Ignition! - I was wondering about fitting this to my car, in a bid to maintain performance and negating the necessity to keep adjusting the points (which is a real curse word on my dizzy ) How do you get on with it? I've heard a few horror stories about similar cheaper systems by other manufacturers The mapped ignition sounds like the way forward for general improved running and gaining performance (especially if you've got a few other engine mods) And if you are keeping the carb/s? I reckon you wouldn't be detracting from the car's character. I'm unsure what Megasquirt is - I presume its a conversion to fuel injection for carbed cars? - Some web investigation I feel coming on.........

Take a look: www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.htmlIt's an engine management system that uses cheap Ford parts to control injection systems and ignition systems. Fully mapable and can be programed from a laptop with a free program you download from the web. There's also a forum on the web where users can compare notes.

Mate i used to have so so many issues with the Points on my car closing, The OPTRONIC system is excellent no messing about and no points i would recommend it to anyone and once set you have not got to mess about with it,
Either the OPTRONIC or MAGNATRONIC, i have both one on either car and cannot see any benefit from the adjustment version cus you never really nead to change it. DEFo a recomandation

Cheers Smiler for the link - really facinating stuff! Hope to see your back here more often from now on!
Thanks BGTMIDGET7476 for the recommendation - I'm presuming the Optronic version is capable of maintaining a stronger spark?

I'd definitely go the Megasquirt route - the whole thing about mapping from your own laptop swung it for me. I'll be using the MS ecu in the 4.5 V8 but it may be a long while before I get to use it as I have to build both the ECU and the engine yet! The cost factor was a major thing for me too - I've sourced all of my parts from the scrappy and eBay so it's cost me hardly anything. The biggest outlay was the ECU itself which was about £80. If I swap injectors and stuff I can just reprogramme it to cope - you can't beat that! I'm not going for the electronic ignition just yet as I already have far too much to do! ;D
