Hello everyone, I haven't been on here in ages so thought I'd better explain myself and let you all know what I've been up to (if anyones interested). A large reason for my dissapearance is the imminant birth of my first child. My fiancee became rather clingy after finding out she was expecting and as the computer lives at my parents place due to lack of space or land line at ours, I don't get much oppourtunity to use it. So when I do get to use it time is usualy limited and I tend to concentrate on specific sites for my needs. So that's why I've been quite on here for the six months or so. Secondly, I've also just been promoted at work and so I'm now a chargehand (team leader) on Hawk jets which means I've got a new aeroplane to learn and a new hanger to live in. The cars. The Escort is still not finished but does now have the engine block installed. The car has undergone mamoth modifications and now has fully sorted suspension, electrics and body (no body kits!) and the gearbox has been rebuilt with an LSD and final drive from a Series 2 RS Turbo. The engine is a 2.0ltr Zetec running on 1.8 Zetec inlet manifold with a 2.0ltr throttle bodie. The management side is modified CVH EFi from a late mk4 XR3i. I just need to finish the cylinder head rebuild and put it back together. The Cortina has just gone back on the road after removal of the front jacking points and repairs to the shell. It's also been completely rebushed with deflex poly bushes which although I would avoid on later cars, work fine on the Cortina. Future plans for the Cortina are: Fit thr LPG system. Upgrade front brakes with Granada parts (keeping the standard Ghia wheels). 2.9i V6 conversion with 5 speed box. LSD rear axle. Eventualy I might fit a clutched supercharger for use with the LPG. As for the old VW, it needs a bit of TLC and a rewire but it's at the back of the que again! I hope I don't leave it so long before my next visit. Regards, Smiler.

Hello again! How easy does the RST LSD and final drive go in? Is it a straight swap? Just thinking about giving my brother MORE stuff to do on his Mk3 Escort! ;D

Cheers for the replies. WhosDave, glad you found the site of some use. It really is in need of updating but I haven't the time at the moment. However, I will get onto it! Benzboy, The LSD and final drive wasn't too taxing but was a bit fiddly. He'll need a gearbox rebuild kit for all the split rings etc.... An easier option is to find an S2 LSD box in good condition and swp the outer casing for a mk3 item as you then don't have to disturb the gear shafts. It's all on the site but as usual is incomplete and some of the pics might be missing. DarrenW, Busy? You don't know the half of it! and all in the wrong directions. ;D

Chers mate, the most dreaded of all car mods has been bought though, the car seat and 'baby on board' sticker! Though I am allowed to spend a little money on a brake upgrade! ;D

Chers mate, the most dreaded of all car mods has been bought though, the car seat and 'baby on board' sticker! On the upside, you get pic of the best spaces at Tesco's. Extra wide so no more parking damage! (Hopefully!!!) I hope never to succumb to owning a "mummy wagon" scenic or similar. Hey it's easy enough to fit all Junior's accoutriments into the e30 with plent 'o' space to spare. I'm gonna makes sure I'm snipped long before the need for a seven seater appears! If nothing else a vasectomy is waaay cheaper! ;D ;D That said, if you did need to house many offspring, surely a T25 bus would be the coolest way to do it?!? Smiler - hope all goes well with the arrival of little one!!

Yeah, my parents fitted the three of us plus all our holiday luggage into an Austin Maxi (and an Austin 100 before that!)

No chance of me ever buying something 'new and sensible', I'm not that gulible! As for a T25, I've got the '72 Type 2 Bay bus to keep things retro and avoid road tax! ;D And carpark damage? My car doesn't seem to suffer too much of that. People tend to avoid parking too close when they see the blisters and red oxide primer up the front wing joints.

Congrats Smiler! Here's to many years of sleepless nights, zero social life, no time to work on your motor...... ...But hey, it's more than worth it!! (And remember - it's never too early to start educating Kaitlin in the ways of "Retro"! )

Cheers folks. We are both well chuffed!
As for teaching her in the ways of Retro, so far she has only traveled in the Cortina and is deffinately rear wheel driven herself judgeing by the skidmarks she keeps leaving out her back end!
