Hi, I have an FJ20E engine assembly from a 2.0L NIssan Silvia for sale if anyone is after a badass engine for a conversion. The FJ20E is a DOHC 16V 2.0L fuel injected motor that's good for 148 hp @ 6400 rpm and 136 ft lb @ 4800 rpm. These engines are also mega strong and will handle stacks of abuse. They will take 8000rpm no problem. I have the engine, gearbox, wiring harness, air flow meter and ECU ...everything that's needed to fit it into another car. I can also provide all the wiring info (which is simple) and a service manual plus parts catalog for this engine. I'm after £150 for the lot. PM me if your interested. I'll take some pics of it an post them here soon. I bought the engine from a scrapyard who assured me it was in good working order. The car it came from was very rusty so I'm inclined to believe that is probably why it was scrapped and the engine certainly looks to be in good shape. This is what an FJ20E looks like... www.turbocreations.com/fj20/phils675roadster/IMAG0050b.jpgCheers, -Eddie

How often do these engines come up,.. if I end up with the MGB I'd love to stick one of these in (as far back in the engine bay as it'll go),..
Preferably an FJ24 or FJ20ET although as far as I know the FJ20ET never ended up over here??? Or am I mistaken?

Preferably an FJ24 or FJ20ET although as far as I know the FJ20ET never ended up over here??? Or am I mistaken? They don't come up for sale all that often as not many 2.0L sSilvias were ever sold here. About 131 of them were still on the road in the UK at the end of 2001 so maybe around 100 or less now. To most people they seem less desirable than the turbo version but the FJ is actually more powerfull. You are very, very unlikely to ever fins an FJ20ET in the UK. I have had one only ever heard of two others..one in a Gazelle which is for sale for silly money and the other is in a DR30 Skyline 2000RS. You will not get an FJ24 at all. Only the 240RS rally cars had them and they will fetch big money. I know a rear axle off a 240RS will fetch £1500 so I dread to think what an FJ24 would go for It is possible to turbo the FJ20E but there are quite a lot of differences between the turbo and non-turbo FJ20's. You would still be able to build a 400hp engine with an n/a as the base if you changed the pistons though. You can buy turbo manifolds from Oz then add aftermarket management and get rid of the dizzy. I'm bnot sure how well one would fit in an MGB as they are quite tall. Guess some measuring is in order. -Eddie

Hmm I'll do some measuring next time I'm at my parents,..
Any thoughts on fairly low profile,.. fairly short engines,.. i want it right back in the engine bay, as much weight behind the front axle as possible.

What sort of power are you looking for?

May sounds trite,.. but as much as I can get as light as I can get it. MGBs can handle silly power through their axles, and suitable gearboxes can be found. The V8 route is obvious, but A) I'd like something different and B) I'd like something lighter and smaller. Seen a Nissan 200SX 1.8 Turbo 16v on Ebay As well as a 2 litre Starion engine. Just bouncing ideas at the moment, (this is where I phone my dad and he has a fit about my plans,.. ) ,..

The 200SX engine (CA18DET) is tiny for a 1.8. NIssan purposely designed the block to be as short as possible to make it easier for them to mount in transversely in smaller cars. I belive a complete CA18DET weighs about 128kg so it's light too. A stock CA18DET puts out 169bhp and it's pretty easy to bump this to around 230bhp. On stock injectors you can see about 270bhp. How much power you get from a CA18DET is dependant on how much you want to spend. There's a 200SX about currently that has 614bhp and 480ft/lb... insane from just 1.8! I don't think there is any other engine that is so capable, whilst being so small and yet very cheap to buy. The CA18DET was also quite sophisticated for it's day and the distibutorless ignition help to make it easy to fit into all sorts of different cars. There's is endless amounts of tuning info on CA18DET's on www.sxoc.com if you want to read up on them.

How much is a 200SX engine likely to set me back?

A decent one will go for between £250 and £400 with all the right bits. Occasionally you get lucky and get one even cheaper. I even managed to get one for free minus it's turbo. If you can bolt and engine together I can get all the bits to rebuild one pretty cheap. I rebuilt one of mine for about £350 and that included new pistons and a rebore.
The best way to get a good CA is to buy a complete car. Rusted out S13's can be quite cheap and they are always on eBay. If you get a whole car you can not only hear it run and drive it but you can often sell some of the parts off it on SXOC and get some of the money back too.
