I very much doubt anyone has been stupid knowledgable (!!) enough to modify one.....
And as for it being kinda retro............ any car that Vanessa Feltz owns will never be retro.

The Figaro is based on the Micra Turbo (same 1.0 turbo engine), tuning parts are avilible in japan. I have seen pictures of a Fig with March Super Turbo power, i will see if i can dig up some pics.

I think they're great...Someone should whisper something to the Z-Cars boys about the possibility of a rear-mounted bike engined one...Would be a hoot.

Jonathon Ross' missus also has one - and there are far too many in Teddington and Twickenham...

Let the red headed and 3rd division celebrities have their Figaro's. Get one of these instead! Nissan Pao! It looks like a bombshelter, but its a bit more honest.

Good cars, figaros. Most know the story - they made 20,000 of them and had to hold a lottery as so many people wanted them. Available in pastel blue green and yellow, plus grey and brown. Nice!
Very nearly bought one a few years ago. They go like stink and are loaded too - CD, air-con, turbo, auto - and a hard top convertible to boot. There are quite a lot of them here now, so prices are coming down. Wouldn't want to prang one though - based on the K10 micra which is not exactly safe anyway, plus these things have plastic panels... Still, they do look cool - and of course they are retro - they were designed as a retro car!

Couldn't see myself in one myself, just a Micra trying to be a retro sports car isn't it? Thing is, you could get a genuine retro roadster such as a Midget for cheaper, and it would have genuine retro character to it, rather than the whole new Mini thing going on, where just because it's been done up to look like it's a 60s car doesn't mean it's as interesting or characterful as one, which is how I see the Figaro, a modern car masquerading as something interesting. Having said that, it's only my opinion, and I suppose it could be a good little car, but to be honest I think if I wanted a a classic roadster I'd personally go for the full experience, if I want leather, aircon, comfort and the like I know an 80s Volvo is a VERY cheap way to get that, not sure if I'd go half way, and buy a modern, well specced car that wants to have the soul of a Lotus Elan or MG Midget but wimps out and ends up as sort of comfy cruiser and sort of exciting sports car, or more to the point it's neither.

Everybody whines about how boring modern cars are and how cool looking old stuff is yet when a manufacturer actually bothers to try and build something cool everyone then critisises it for trying to be something it can never be...old. WTF?
The Figaro was not a cynical marketing ploy like the "new Mini" or Beetle. It wasn't trying to be a new version of a popular old model in order to make use of heritage to boost sales, nor was it copying any old car but with a modern twist. It was a unique design in it's own right as are all the Pike series car. For attempting something so unique Nissan should be applauded not critisised.
The Figaro was built in the early 90's and with the benefit of modern technology. I'm sure Nissan could have managed to create a car with lame 1950's performance, a leaky hood and terminal unreliability but I don't think it would have found many buyers.
The idea of having a modern, well equiped and reliable car that stands out from modern euro blobs like a sore thumb is surely something desirable is it not? If having the lack of performance, technology and comfort of an old car like a Midget or Herald is what makes a car desirable what on earth are we all modifying them and upgrading them for?

I gotta say I'm loving the Pao ! Never heard of it before I started this thread, but I'm glad I do now. Shame they are still quite a lot of money, I'd chop in my Polo for one. I like the door hinges, the opening rear windows, the lines on the panels (remind me of VWtype 181) and just the general quirkyness, that modded one is the nuts...
