Firstly, apologies for the quite blatantly photo-shopped image to tempt you in!
This is how the car should be looking by now but as ever I find myself with not enough time or space or inclination to complete a project! I bought this car with the intention of turning it into a rat-look cruiser for the summer show season - you know the score, nice flat paintwork, seriously slammed over nice wide BBS rims...would have looked the schizzle!
If you didn't want to make it into a "showing off" motor, there's no reason why you shouldn't just use it as a perfectly reasonable clunker to move yourself / others / luggage from A to B!
So, I hear you cry, what is it actually like?
Well the bodywork has got copious dings and scratches on it and the paint is faded to curse word BUT it's sound as a pound with absolutely diddly squit rust on it (VW are good at making the bodies rust proof, huh?).
The interior appears to have been home to a comunity of field mice at some time who appear to have found the driver's seat a particularly delicious treat (but this is something easily hidden by some cheapo seat covers) and it could do with a good clean-up. But everything that should be there is there, there are five seatbelts (ideal for restraining the offspring, although if they are teenagers they will probably prefer to walk as this car could seriously damage your cred!).
All the lights, wipers, horn and that kinda stuff works too! Brakes are OK too and there's nowt untoward going on in the steering or suspension departments
Now the bad news. The thrust bearing on the clutch is on the way out which makes the pedal quite heavy to operate. That said all the gears engage nice and slickly and the clutch doesn't slip. Also the Carburettor is a particularly poopy one. VW of this era had particularly cack carbs and this one is especially bad. It's fine from cold and the car starts first turn, ticks over and revs freely. When it gets warmed up it will sometimes cut out and then need a couple of minutes "rest" before you get underway again.
A new carb will sort this out no probs. My plan was to bung a nice weber on there to rectify the situation!
So if you do fancy this delightful little churner-burner, please remember that it will be best if you trailer / tow it away, or bring a spare carb with you to attach before you skedaddle off home. If you live close by, then you'll get back just fine. It's just I wouldn't fancy driving it hundreds of miles in its current state!
The car is located in SOUTHEND, ESSEX (at NightmaresRacing's place). I do have the V5 but that is with me in Bedfordshire).
And remember THIS CAR HAS 6 MONTHS MOT!! An afternoon's tinkering could have you a nice runaround for the price of a night down the pub!!!
COME ON GUYS, ITS TOO GOOD TO SCRAP!
Show me £20 of your money and its yours!! ;D
